I've started using console view more, especially when I get a song to the point where I'm doing a final mix. I like both but console I like for mixing. I do wish Sonar had an EQ section kind of like Cubase SX. That would make it feel more like a real console for me. And yeah,,,I've got to get another monitor!

You have to remember that Pedulist doesn't use Autotune. So he probably sings the song 69 times, takes one on-key note from each take, and then uses Track 70 to patch together his vocal track. :)
Yeah, I guess that must be it...

Ped, you know you can delete the tracks you don't use... :D

I hate scrolling....

70+ tracks is my average...most of what I've posted is around 70 tracks.
Each string is in stereo.:p

I'm using it less and less but it's still good for some things, scanning all the aux assigments, working fast or rough. I'd still start a quick mix there.

Hey Pedullist, I thought my current gig at 45+ tracks was getting just stupid. I'm warring out the damned scroll knob...:D

What I don't like about it is, it's there.
Covering up what's important.
Everything can be done without it.
I tried to send it back to Cakewalk with a nasty note, but they notified my IP telling them I sent them a virus.

I use the console view for almost everything while tracking, rough mixing, inserting and adjusting plugins, and setting up aux sends, I use the track view when doing automation, editing, and fine tuning track settings.

I really like that both views are there, so I have the freedom to choose how I want to work, even discussing the removal of ANY feature that makes Sonar my favorite audio recording software pisses me off!

If you want to work exclusively in the track view, that's YOUR choice, why the hell would you want to take away MY ability to choose for myself???

I wish the console view was configurable, I would love to be able to..

1) choose a slightly smaller size for thr playback track modules, and/or the mains, while leaving the aux sends alone.

2) eliminate the wasted space between the aux sends and the phase/stereo-mono switches in the track modules, I normally run 4 auxes, and there is enough room to make the channel modules shorter without taking away anything, all this so you can...

3) be able to "stack" the modules, so you could set it up with a whole 24 tracks, stacked in two banks of 12, then the aux sends block and then 4 mains stacked in two banks of 2. it would all fit on a single screen at 1024x768 including 2 rows of toolbars, and the status bar on the bottom.

wishful thinking on my part... :D

Sure, but it makes it alot easier. And the Console View is a bless for every dual monitor setup... ;)

I wouldn't use the Console View if I didn't have two monitors. It takes way too much space to use CV with just one monitor.... ;)

Here's a fellow that's understood the meaning of Live... er... Consolve View... :D

I'm with you, Strryder. :)

I agree with you on that note....

Pssst... Dachay...

...there's no such Console View in Cakewalk Pro 3. Why don't you use it instead SONAR ? :p :D

Who says I don't use 'm?

I like to make harmonies on one word or little prases....each voice a new track, repeat until it's massive (when it's 30+ it can get pretty massive ;) )

Phil Spector is my hero.

:D

When I first got my second monitor, I was running the track view on one, and the console view + the big time view on the second, I used it like this a few times, but decided it was just to busy and distracting, plus, I need some real estate for my Delta 1010's control panel when tracking, I now use this layout just for automation, editing, and fine tuning a mix.

So now I have 2 main layouts, one for heavy automation/editing, and another for tracking.

The tracking layout is the track view maximized, with the console view maximized over it on the first monitor, so I'm usually working in the console view, but can close it whenever needed, and have the track view right there. The second monitor is just the Delta's control panel, plus plenty of empty space for dragging any opened plugins over to it, so I can adjust them and keep an eye on the levels in the console view.

This thread will tell you how to customize your track view.....

Thanks acidrock, but the whole point of my long rambling expaination was all about how I would like to set up the CONSOLE view, if IT were configurable, so I could have..

24 Track modules with 4 auxes each
4 aux masters
4 mains

All on one 1024x768 monitor... that would be sweet.

So why don't you set it up like that in the track view,it'd be easy enough.
Here's an example...

But then you won't have a working Track View... I can still go along with you Strryder, a configurable Console would be better.

But I like the one I have now! :D

How do you guys post images? I butchered up a Sonar screenshot, does the pic need to be on the net somewhere?

Two fields over the "Submit Reply"-button there's a place where you can attach files. Pictures will show up automaticly. :)

pic is too big... if it weren't for moskus I would be the only person on the planet that digs the console view...:D
