Hey, Im completely new to all of this. I've got an Emu 0404 soundcard and im trying to connect it to my mixer which is the yamaha mg10/2. What cable do I need? I've got an rca pin jack cable going from the rec. out of the mixer to the soundcard, but I'm confused as to which socket of the soundcard the jack should go to, as there is a L-out R-out, L-in and a R-in. Or do I need another cable?

Any help would be much appreciated

cheers, Adam

Your yamaha should have a L & R output for recording which would plug into the L & R input of your soundcard.

Just take a quick look at your manual.

The EMU 0404 has 1/4" inputs, so if you want to use the rca rec out on your mixer and a rca cable, you need to get rca-to-1/4" adapters, like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GPR101/

Though, your best bet would be to just buy 1/4" cables and use the main out on the mixer. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CPG110/

Or buy the adapters and the 1/4" cables and use the rca cable you have already to connect from the outs on your EMU to the tape in on the mixer for monitoring with headphones.

i go right in through the mic in.

Not a good idea: line level signal is a lot "hotter" than a mic signal.

"Damage may occur" :(

True, but the EMU 0404 doesn't have mic level inputs, just line level.
