What is the purpose of a compressor in recording?
What is your opinion of SM-57 & SM-58 and a Mackie 1604-VLZ and Panasonic 3700 Dat for starting equipment? I won't be getting into Computer moderation until basics are down.

Best to get a multitrack recorder were you can edit as well.
If you record direct to a DAT then get at least one condensor mic,
and a pair of monitors. Then you will have a basic decent set up.
