comparing the tascam m320 and the m50 will help in buying decision..

hi all, i am looking at getting either one of these boards as a front end before i record into cubase..
i am using a korg triton,ensoniq asr 10,mpc 3000, 1 technics 1200, and a bass guitar,
i want an analog board thats gonna give my beats that analog warmth.. my buddy has a tascam m520 and we ran his music thru there before dumping into pro tools and then we ran his music straight into pt..
big difference... the drums and bass had a deeper, crunchier,bottom end, the strings sounded wonderful..
i have been looking for an m520 but with no luck..
i have an oppurtunity to buy an m50 or a m320 though.. i have perused the search feature on here with both mixers and have gathered some info on them..
i didnt see anyone do a a-b comparison though..
basically i am looking for a mixer with good e.q., decent pre's, a lot of headroom,and who's routing capabilities isnt a nightmare...
any and all help regarding mixers is appreciated

p.s. i was gonna buy an m216 but it doesnt seem to work and i am not paying $$$ to get it fixed..
 
also i want to know if the m50 has phantom power...
does the m320 have phantom power??
how are the e.q''s, the headroom,the pre's, and the overall sound on the 2524??

Sometimes a bit of patience is a virtue. ;)

I own a couple of M312B mixers which I use together to form a custom M324B mixer which does have phantom power for all 24 mic channels and sounds real sweet and on an even par with the M520 which also has phantom power. The biggest differences between the 300 and 500 series mixers are the number of busses with the 300 series being 4 buss and the 500 series being an 8 buss with external rack mount power supply.

The M50 mixer was an older version to the M512 which has a built in power supply like the 300 series but only the shorter 60mm faders where the 300 series offers the professional 100mm, long stroke faders just like on the 500 series.

The older 300 series models who's model numbers do not end with a "B" on the end of the model number, do not have phantom power or as robust a level architecture as the newer B series but still sound very good too.

I have received many compliments on the sound quality of my productions and that quality is in no small part due to the fact that all my sound goes through the board for initial tracking to mastering. I don't use any external pre-amps as the ones built into the board are wonderful sounding all by them selves, which is how a good mixer is supposed to sound in the first place.

You really can't go too far wrong by picking either of these boards but if 8 buss tracking is a must have feature, I'd hold out for an M520 or if not, an M320B.

i saw a pic of your mixers on another forum and was impressed.
i have a question..
if i purchase a board w/o phantom power am i going to have problems tracking an mpc3000, an ensoniq asr10, or korg triton into the board. is there going to be enough line level to power those units??? i seem to have that problem now with my m216 and dont want to run into that problem with another board..
 
You shoulnt have any problems recording those. The phantom power is only used for condencer mics to power them.
If you dont need 20 input channels you can always get the 312b with 12 channels. These are a little easier to find.
