Chord Progression question???

can't tell without hearing the song.
Most of the replies could be correct ...... a strong case could be made for them all technically.
But you've got to hear the song to know.
I do songs in C that have the Em and Am in them. I also do things in Am that have the Em and C in them hhhmmmm .... do things in a minor key that would have the equivelent of the other two chords in them although I'm not sure if they're in Em or not.
And while it's true that most songs end on the tonic or root chord ..... there are plenty that don't.
So without any further info it's not possible to tell regardless of how the chords relate to each other.

Hey Beagle, where can I find links to some stuff you've done?

Good luck with that demented. I asked many times to hear his tunes ... to demonstrate his mastery of songsmanship, but ... nothing. I'm convinced he probably can't even write a song.

very interesting discussion going on. I definiely feel like its the key of Em. It does have a kinda sad, outlaw type feel to it, as probably would be expected with minor chords. I'm still getting the hang of this theory thing, but progressing pretty good. All my stuff on my link is very beginner type stuff and pre-theory studying :D we are working on a bunch of new stuff that is still beginner but hopefully a step above. I notice alot of songs like some pop kinda rock, tend to use upwards of 7 chords and even change keys!! Man........whatever happened to the good ol' fashioned 3 chord song a la Hank Williams Sr??!!!

There's nothing wrong with 3 chords! Tom Petty wrote a LOT of great songs with 3 chords, as did the Beatles, the Stones, and plenty of other bands!

Chad,

You got some nice stuff happening there - only had a quick chance to check it out, will try to get more later.

I like the sound you get on bass. What are you using?

Thanks.

I don't know which song(s) you checked out, but I'm pretty sure the bass was synth bass whenever it was there. For "Not That Bad," it came from a Yamaha QY70.

For "That's What I'd Say," it was from a Zoom PS-04 handheld recorder. (That whole song was recorded on that unit to see what it could do--I used the onboard bass and drums sounds, the onboard condenser mic for the vox and acoustic, and the amp simulator for the elec.)
