Cheap compressor after mic or after interface?

Currently using a Heil PR 40 into a Roland VT-3

Where would I put the compressor? After the mic? After the VT-3? Are there any cheap compressors that will work here?

Compressor won't have a mic preamp, so after the VT-3. The VT-3 appears to have stereo outs, a cheap two channel compressor >> dbx 266XS | Sweetwater.com (?)
