good idea.. but I HAVE! its on :( i really wanna record!!!!

In Multi-Track view, do you have the little button on the track pressed for Record?

Sorry, that's all I've got.

yes i do have it pressed on record.. ive been trying for days and hours.. thres no help and support for cool edit itself cos adobe seems to have taken over..

Go to Options/Device Order and make sure the correct sound card or other device is selected. On the track you are recording to, make sure you have selected the correct In for the source your mic is on.

I am sure it's something simple like that.

What are you using for a sound card, are you sure your plugged into the right jack, and are you getting any levels on the windows mixer (or whatever mixer came with your sound card)?

yep ive gone through the device order and everything.. all the settings are correct. this is a tricky one but there must be a way..the mic does work cos it reads it.. and cool edit works with another device i have just not this 1.. and the wierd thing is it worked for about 5minutes when i first got earphones so i thougt ok i just needed that but thenit stopped working.. it must be a simple setting yeh but ive gone through everything :( something u might want to know.. when i go to sound and audio device properties / sound recordin / volume.. i cant seem to move it.. or click or unclick on mute..

tricky 1 right? thanks for trying though.. i appreciate it alot

sound card-creative-sound blaster.. yes thats all plugged in right

Do you get any sound from your pc at all???

If your volume is not adjustable...it's generally a sign that something is not functioning with your sound card. is the volume greyed out??

You might try re-installing your sound card.... just a thought.

You might check the Windows mixer and see that nothing's muted. This one caught me, last week...my speakers had stopped working. I traded them out, and the new ones didn't work! After a great deal of thought, I checked the Windows mixer and found that it had somehow been set to "Mute all." How THAT happened I have no idea, unless the cat's been messing with my computer at night.

I am still convinced it's a routing issue, since I have been befuddled by the same sort of problem a couple of times in the past when I changed sound cards or something else.

yep i get sound out the pc.. the speakers are fine. the sound cards installed fine aswell.. on windows recording mixer-options-properties-when my mixer device is set to the correct mic im trying to use only 1 volume ontrl appears on the recording bit.. this is 'wave' isnt there supposed to be a 'mic' 1 too?

also another thing you might want to know on the cooledit opening page for recording the monitor record level reads the mic.. meaning cool edit does read it, it just doesnt record?? :( i really want and NEED this to work :(

Ok, try this, on the Windows Mixer, go to "options" and then "properties", under "recording"... click the "microphone" box so you get a slider for the mic, then make sure it's checked (i think it actually says "select")...

adjust the volume and see if that helps, if it still doesn't work, it almost has to be a setting in Cool Edit.

there isnt a "microphone" part all there is is "wave" but when i select other devices there is... confusing huh? :( i know it must be a cool edit setting but im pretty sure ive gone through every setting there is!!! i think im gonna try ad re-install my soundcard.. ill keep trying...................

Q: I can't record in Cool Edit Pro. When I try, I get a flat line, and no sound when I play. What's wrong?
A:
You may have the record level set too low for the audio signal you're trying to record, or your sound card’s mixer might not have the desired input set to record.

thats something i found in cool edit help.. i dont think it applies to me though but u never know it could.. the question is the problem i have but the answer? not to sure. because ive tryed..

Have you tried another software just for eliminate error on cool edit?
Have you tried to reinstall driver for sound card?
Have you tried another microphone?
Do you have LINE IN on your sound card? Tried that?

it's the windows config, card, driver setup

open up Volume Control, select properties from drop down
click recording button, select your mixer device

if you do not see the input that you are using listed there, then it 'does not exist' as far as the computer is concerned

if you see it listed, you have to check it in order to include it in your control

if not there, then you have to reinstall card/drivers

it is listed therefore it does exist.. ive even selected it in cool edit and the monitor record level at the bottom reads it so its confusing?

yes other mics do work.. my old 1 i have is still useable..

line in on my soundcard? where do i find that.. i think then its something to do with my soundcard right? ill try re-installing?

problem is i have a sound card installed and a .. ermmm im not sure what exactly it is, i think maybe a sound module? i cant find the box or cd for that though.. do you think it will work if i just re-install the sound card.. sound blaster-audigy'?? but this doesnt really link with the mic, its more just for the speakers so im not sure theres point re-installing it..??
