Can't overdub in Cubase 5.1

I'm using a Zoom r16 to record my raw tracks, then I import them into cubase. I can add VSTI's as tracks, but if I try to dub in a guitar part or a vocal part via a mic through the zoom r16 interface, or a tascam us122, it won't record. I've updated all of my drivers for the zoom and tascam units. However, if I start the project from scratch IN Cubase, I can record fine. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Rob

Sounds like you need to setup your input bus's via Devices>VST Connections. Then select the created bus via the Inspector Window (left side panel on main project screen) on each new track. And make sure to hit that monitor button and record enable on each track. :)

I'll try that, but why would I be able to record a track with a mic or guitar as a new project? The only time that I can't use an external instrument is when I have imported the audio tracks.

Possibly because the default on a new project you selected is preset with one input already selected. I can't be sure without seeing you setup, but that is a possibility.

Screenshots would be quite helpful. :)

Thanks! I'll take a screen shot and post it here when I get home from work.
