When we were recording our latest album, I said something to the effect that I was generally unimpressed by EVH. The engineer took some offence to that and played me this incredible song by him. It was some unplugged thing where Eddie was doing tapping stuff on an acoustic guitar. On that occasion he really impressed me and it also sounded pretty good. Does anyone knows where I might find this on the internet or on an album?

Okay, NOW I understand.

He did change rock guitar and a whole slew of players owe a debt of gratitude to him. Guys like Vitto Bratta, Zakk Wylde & Nuno Bentencourt obviously studied that early Van Halen stuff. But they improved upon it and grew as players. Eddie peaked early and it seemed downhill ever since.

Vito who? Nuno who? I hear way more Randy Rhodes in Zakk's playing.

Eddie was a creative monster up until Roth's departure, he only started his downward spiral as a guitar god after being Sammy-ized. I'm convinced that it was DL Roth that would kick Eddie in the rear to produce the ass-whooping stuff he played, because left on his own he turned to keyboards and cheesy ballads.

Anyone ever hear the EVH piece on "Back To The Future" ? Michael J Fox puts a set of headphones on someone in the past, 50s?, and it's Eddie wailin!
Nothin I've heard on an album.

Funny, I hear EVH in Zakk's playing way more than Randy. Randy abused aolean and harmonic minors while Zakk is a pentatonic meister. He plays nothing like Randy except when he tours with Ozzy and plays Randy's old songs. Other than that, I don't know how your hearing Randy in there.

And yeah, Roth would be kicking Ed's ass but I don't think it'd matter now.

I never listen to Zakk outside of the old Ozzy stuff, so....whatever. He's a great player IMO.
