Yea guys, it is heartbreaking to see someone once so full of life and energy reduced to a shadow of his former self. Time is a cruel, merciless bitch...

And the old saying is wrong; time doesn't give a damn whether you're having fun or not.

Punkin, how can I download that video?

Yes. Wait for it to complete download while playing. Then search your C Drive for .wmv files with todays date. The file is about 25 MB.

The file will generally be in your windows temp intenet files directory. If you know where that is, just find it easily. Otherwise search for it.

Totally, thanks for the link..

He's a god among men when it comes to guitar. I still listen to Cathedral and am blown away that he did that with a guitar.

I am a big EVH fan myself, but Cathedral isn't that hard to pull off. If you set your delay right, you can just noodle around with your right pinky wrapped around the volume knob and it sounds about like that. not to belittle it. I liked it when it came out. Most of the stiff he plays I can't cop, but that's a pretty easy thing to rip off. It's a slower delay. Not sure of the ms as I have a knob.

That's cool, guitar players have had like 28 years to figure out all of his licks and tricks, which is great. Though I've heard way more Van Halen butchered than well emulated.

I'll always hold EVH as THE heavy rock guitar innovator of my generation, as he set a standard back in '78 that was not to be equaled for many years.

It was a sad day when I heard Roth left the group, but it was a sadder day when I heard Sammy was the new singer. I have a hard time listening to any post-Roth recordings.

I saw Van Halen every time they came to my town, from Van Halen II up through 1984. I went to see them on the 5150 tour with Hagar and that was the last time I saw them live. It wasn't the same without Roth.

I've heard that Wolfgang traded some licks on stage with Eddie on the 2004 tour.

Pay attention to this, guys!

Yeah, Eddie's in bad shape, but it's not just because he got old. It's because of the shit he put in his body. This is what several packs of cigarettes a day and non-stop drinking does to you. Learn the fucking lesson, here!

And I don't think Valerie left him because he got in that condition, I think she left him because he wouldn't stop going down the path of self-destruction and she finally had to leave. You can't stop someone bent on killing themselves, but you don't have to stand by and watch it.

I hope the rumors are wrong about it spreading, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I repeat, learn the fucking lesson.

End of sermon.

Amen...I mean that...

man he cant even play guitar without smoking.

that vid is great. he is definitely a guitar GOD. he never misses a note. every note is dare i say "perfect." i really cant imagine how much further you can take electric guitar playing. as far as heavy rock goes i really dont think his playing and solo inovation can ever be topped.

There are, were and will still be great guitar players out there no doubt but no matter, he deserves a place in the history books of rock-n-roll guitar don't you think?

C'mon...it's great to bash on an old guy that wrote the book on modern rock guitar when he's on the way out...he's been there done that and left his mark. Where were all the down pounders when he was creating the stuff...they were sitting back...becoming inspired, and taking what he offered up to the next level. No disgrace in that is there?

Junkie,...probably, musical genius...probably not, die hard rock-n-roller...is there any doubt, guitar playing inovator and wizard...who are you to judge?

I suspect that on his worst day he'd clean our collective clocks. We're not just talking about an erruption festival but look at his body of work. How many hits, how many years and he's not another one of the Juliard turn outs (no discredit just a point of reference). He did it...that's all there is to say.

Eddie was king of guitar in the 80's. He was on the cover of every guitar magazine. There were plenty of guitarists trying to play like him or get his tone. Guys started carving up their Strats and replacing their single coils with humbuckers. It's too bad he is having health problems. But it's hard to argue with his contribution to guitar rock.

Eddie had the balls to tear amps apart and see how they worked, to try all kinds of different things he really came up with some good stuff and shaped his sound like a true artist. It is one thing to buy a Marshall plexi and a Les Paul and get a good sound it is another thing to be able to modify guitars and amps when your a teenager in like 1970.

Oh yeah, How many guitar manufacturures started putting humbuckers in strat style guitars because of Eddie. He doesn't even get credit for that.

Eddie had the balls to smoke 12 packs of cigarettes a day and his lung still feels great. Let's see you try that. Uh huh, just what I thought....Pussies!

:D

I'm very much not a fan of EVH, or tapping.... but, it's sad to see him like that, I hope it was just a bad picture of him. I saw that video (I think the first I've ever bothered of watching of his) and there's no denying his playing talent. Tapping doesn't terribly impress me, but there's a part on that video that displays his picking hand just in a blur. WOW. I'd kill for that speed with picking. One of the only electric guitar innovators since Hendrix, he certainly changed the way the guitar was played.
