Cakewalk Drum loop CDs

I am about to order the Sonar 4 Producer Edition upgrade (currently using 2.2XL). I have not ordered any drum loops before because shipping to Canada is $30, regardless of the order, so have never been interested in ordering a $49 CD and pay $30 to get it to my door, but as I am about to pay the shipping anyway on Sonar 4, plus the Ignite book, I thought I might throw in a loop CD.

Drums are my big hole in recording. I hate writing my own parts using the DR008 or any other sequencer. I have no loops to use, and if I had a CD with a few hundred loops, I am sure I coould get a lot more productive with recording songs.

Has anyone used any of the CDs from Cakewalk?

I was thinking of whether the Drumatic CD (http://store.yahoo.com/cakewalkdirect2/drumforregca.html)

or the Smart Loops Dry Studio Kit http://store.yahoo.com/cakewalkdirect2/30-ddds1-00-20c.html

both are the same price. I just need straight ahead nice drums for mellow groove based rock .

I have drumatic and I'm not real crazy about it,too many funk type beats.I only have the sample smart loops that came with Sonar and they seem pretty good.
The pro drum works package looks pretty good,If I did'nt have as many drum options as I have now it would definitely be on my list.I've found that "complete" loops are a bit constricting,with the option of single tracks you've got a lot more freedom.
 
Don't buy the Dry Studio Drumkit. There is only one sixth of what you should have on the cd, because the repeat the same loops 6 times at different tempos for the poor ones who cannot change speed like we can in Cakewalk. I felt really cheated discovering that.

The only good thing I can say about it is, that you can combine small patterns into longer patterns so that this way you can get a little more variation.
 
thanks for the tips. I was skeptical about getting either the dry kit or the drumatic cd (funk isn't my style), and don't want to spend $50 to get a half dozen loops I like. I have just stuck with the upgrade to v4 Producer, and will keep plugging away as I have using Slicydrummer lite and pattern brushes.

That sucks,as I said I only heard the samples.

The loops I've been the most satisfied with are the drums on demand,sound good and organised well.
Betamonkees loops are a great value,but very disorganised.
 
Yep,i just received the Dry Studio Kit this morning,
The guy's right...it would have been better if they'd included more variation instead of repeating the same loops in 10 different tempos.
Seems such a waste,although the loops available sound good and are useable.


The good thing is,they included single hits of each part of the kit,so i suppose you could run these through a sampler and trigger them with midi to give more variation.Well it's something i'm gonna try anyway!! :)

Yeah, I like the quality of Smart Loops stuff but they could fit more on the CDs. By the way, you might be paying too much. I found this info on DigiFreq about them being on sale for $39 each and then you can get 10% off if you use the special DigiFreq page:
