zZounds has 'em for $110.46---that's about as low as I can remember them ever going for.

That seems like a good price.
I'm not familiar with the 179 is it a good microphone?

The cad m179 is an awesome utility mic, use it on all my acoustic guitar tracks. Have used it plenty as a vocal mic as well. You can't really go wrong with this mic, definitely not at that price.

Thanks Clit ..... are those links to your music done with the 179?

Aaaargh! Now I'm fighting myself about this.

Yes, its a darn good general purpose mic. For that price I want one. The problem is I don't need another mic!

Someone talk me down or give me a good reason.

Can't do it Phil ..... I'm an enabler! You MUST purchase TWO of them. NOW.

Phil,

I sympathize. I've got it bad.

Must buy microphones. It's so hard to control. I put an inordinate amount of my meager resources into microphones, instruments, and recording gear.

On the plus side I look at it this way. Would I be better off in the stock market? Or maybe Real Estate? Cash in my mattress or ripoff gold coins? Art?

When I got into buying mics on ebay I realized very quickly that they hold their value like nothing else. Many of my mics are now going for much more than I paid for them a few short years back.

Of course I can't ever bring myself to sell one. And even when I give one away I feel the need to replace it in my collection.

And I do use them. All the time.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

$109 at Front End Audio - go with the one that gives you cheapest (or free) shipping

oops, that was yesterday - today they are back at $149.

the m179 is used quite a bit in my links, mostly on acoustic guitar, hand percusions and backing vox. I find it works particularly well with a female rapper i work with, she's in my youtube link.

I got mine today. Pluged it in to test it out and...

...its noisy as hell!

Now I have to go through the return process. (sigh)

I thought that California was the first state to not allow microphone returns for health reasons!

Ah! But I think the supplier is not IN California (I hope).

Lets hope so!!!
Anyways, noisy as heck huh?
Can't have that in a microphone. I remember when they first came out, I didn't like them then. I think the one I tried the problem was that the pad and the pattern selectors where scratchy. Turned me right off.

Something is scratchy. Could be the XLR. haven't messed with the switches yet. It does seem more like a dirty contact or a bad connection.

The weird thing is a noise when I touch the basket (or mount) and the grill at the same time, gives me a hum. Could just be a ground wire, but if I open it up I have no chance of returning it.

Ah, for $100 maybe i shouldn't care.

Send it back then save a few more Bens and get the Stellar

PhilGood:

All of my M179 and 177 mics have been dead quiet, with no grounding issues or hum. Four of them came from zZounds. Exchange it---in my experience, that "can't exchange" crap does not apply to factory defects.
