I had this great idea! I wanted to be able to have a mic for my snare that was wired with the phase reversed so I could just put it under the snare and go. I went through my old CAD drum mics only to find out that 2 of 4 were already wired out of phase. They were from different batches obviously, one set the bodies were aluminum and the others brass.

That would explain a lot.

That's fairly tacky.
Or CAD keeping us on or toes so to speak? :p

I did an entire CD with those mics and fought mixing the drums tooth and nail!

Definately NOT on my toes with that one!:D

Can someone explain what that means.

Why would anyone want to rewire the phase on there mics? so it automatically has no phase cancellation?

Because when you put up, a pair let's say of mics, especially the same brand/make, you'd want and should be able to expect that they don't cancel each other out! ..and have to remember each time which one goes which.. way... etc...

He may have a mic he wants dedicated to snare bottom and may prefer to have a polarity reversed mic rather than a polarity reverse cable laying around.

For those that don't know about phase cancellation, your local news helicoptor uses two mics. One in the chopper, and one for the newscaster. The newscastors mic cancells out the ambiant noise of the chopper.

I have a scope running full time in my control room so I can see phase anomalies right away and correct them. Saved my ass many times. I now make it a habit to check polarity on every piece of gear that walks through the door.
