CAD drum mikes. WTF????

I had this great idea! I wanted to be able to have a mic for my snare that was wired with the phase reversed so I could just put it under the snare and go. I went through my old CAD drum mics only to find out that 2 of 4 were already wired out of phase. They were from different batches obviously, one set the bodies were aluminum and the others brass.

That would explain a lot.

Why would anyone want to rewire the phase on there mics? so it automatically has no phase cancellation?

Because when you put up, a pair let's say of mics, especially the same brand/make, you'd want and should be able to expect that they don't cancel each other out! ..and have to remember each time which one goes which.. way... etc...

He may have a mic he wants dedicated to snare bottom and may prefer to have a polarity reversed mic rather than a polarity reverse cable laying around.

I have a scope running full time in my control room so I can see phase anomalies right away and correct them. Saved my ass many times. I now make it a habit to check polarity on every piece of gear that walks through the door.

Just make sure you use the wrong tube upside down.
