Blick-um, blick-um...
... but survives! :o

Last night during tracking vocals, the overzealous vocalist knocked over the SP C1 -- not once, but TWICE! Grrrr.

First time it's fall was cushioned by a sleeping bag draped over a mic stand. The second time, it bounced off another mic stand and onto a bass trap. Could've been a lot worse, I guess.

Afterward I did notice a slight hum in the mic, which wasn't there before. Good thing those suckers are only $200 a piece.

How do I tell my girlfriend I had to trade her Valentine's day gift in for "another" microphone?

I can almost hear her now... "not one of those cheap chinese knock-offs again? Jesus, Rez, why don't you just get a Berringer mic and use the money you saved to buy me a ring?" :(

Ha!

Hey mate go to www.pmiaudio.com/forums and post in the Support forum. They're normally very good at sorting things like this out, even when it's not strictly their problem. At the very worst they'll patch it up for a nominal charge I would've thought.

That sucks, btw. I'm nervous about who uses my T3 because I've seen cheaper mics of mine get sent for a lie-down on the floor.

People just need a bit more respect!

Ha!
Perhaps SHE needs a new mic for Valentine's? You could test it for her and even store it in a safe room. Good luck, Dave.

Noisedude- tnx for the tip.

Tnx Dave, I thought about that, but that would totally ruin things for the future... when I come home and say

"Hi Honey, for your birthday I bought myself a Les Paul"! :D

On a practical note...I find that adding weight to the stands my mics are on makes them more stable. You know those concrete weights? Slide them onto a round-base stand and it makes the thing way more unlikely to fall over...

My question is: why didn't you knock over the overzealous vocalist after the 2nd time?

Stand weights?

I've dropped or had my SPC1 knocked over many a times... I never drop any other mic, but I always have freakish things happen with the C1. I think it's cursed or something. I love it tho.. I haven't had any problems with it yet considering it's been dropped at least five or six times.

I go one better and attach flanges to the cieling...Ive never had such an incident...never had a drummer hit a boom on the overheads...this is so obvious...its beyond me why this isnt more common arround here?

Ah, but then you're limited by the place the flange is...is there a way to put it on a track so it's mobile? Think of it - turning a track light into a moving, ceiling hanging mic stand...er...hanger...

I think any idea shared here whether it is first or not is appreciated! :D
I shared my idea a number of months ago here and a fellow recordist replied saying that he was using the flywheel from the engine of a Jaguar motor vehicle for his counter weight  !
I'm actually surprised that Atlas or somebody doesnt make a heavier replacement base.
In fact, I think I will write them a letter!
I'm sure with the increased sales and use of LDC's the retail market could certainly support it! (no pun intended here!! :p)
