By far the best EQ plugin?

The two native plugins I like the best are PSP's MasterQ and Elemental Audio's Equim.

none!!!!!

hahahahahaha!!!!!

....just kidding.......carry on....

The only one that blew me away was UAD's Precision EQ.

I agree on the oxford, clone!

Also Massenburg!

I dont like the Waves to much, though!

I prefer using the Ozone reverb for my EQ...

oops, sorry, I was having a "sosob flashback". :D

Probably the best one I've used is a free version of the Paris EQ (the one that came with the now discontinued Paris DAW systems).

I have not used alot of the more expensive EQ's out there, but "for the money" or not, I think Equim from Elemental Audio is amazingly good.

I second that for a freebie EQ.

I like the Waves linear phase EQ for use below 1 kHz. Very clean IMO if you use it carefully. I also like the Waves linear phase muitiband comp used as an EQ above 1 kHz, separate from any compression applied.

The EQIII from digidesign isn't too bad.
I wish that came out before I got the Waves REQ. The digi EQIII sounds almost identical, has a better output AND was free...I find myself using it a lot. Along with the Bomb Factory Pultecs

I found this thread extremely interesting and due to what you guys have been saying I started searching these products. However since I'm not a very good engineer at this juncture, the inhouse (Cubase VST) EQ seems to work fine for me. I noticed that these EQs from other sources are costly. What would I get from them that I can't get from what I already have? Other than one that was a 31 band Stereo. which obviously gives much more control.

Ok .. don't tell me I just answered my own question. I have read numerous times that given I understand the science of engineering, I should in fact be able to Master a project good enough for radio play. Is this correct? Because even though I'm getting some good results thus far, I'm my opinion, no where near radio quality.

IME, EQs change the sound quality in other ways besides just raising or lowering the level of a frequency band. If I use a low shelf set to -2 dB at 100 hZ with my Cubase EQ it doesn't just reduce the low end - the plugin casts a veil over the whole sound. If I also use a wide bell filter at, say, 3 kHz, even just a dB or two up or down, it throws on another veil separate from the frequency range boost or cut. If I do the same things with the Waves lin EQ and do an A-B comparison with the Cubase EQ, it's a night and day difference in sound quality re richness of the lows, clarity of the mids, sweetness of the highs. And that's with just subtle EQ changes... the differences are even more apparent with more intense EQ use.

More praise for the elemental audio plugs Equim and Firium. Extremely useful and sounds great, especially considering the price.
