so I just got my bx8's, in place of my old bx5's.
these things are big big boys compared to the 5's. haha.

I've kinda concluded that I gottaaaa get them a little further back from my head. Are my only real options DIY mic stands or get a new desk?

Right now it's like a foot and a half equilateral triangle, more or less a half a foot. I'm thinking that's close, cuz it sure feels like it is! haha.

alright, thanks guys.

Yeah unless you're mixing room is like 4 feet deep those are a little close. If you make homemade stands just make sure they're really heavy, you don't want any mdf involved use good hardwoods.

I got a Pair of bookshelves from target that mine sit on, behind my desk. I measured exactly how tall they needed to be and bought that height. they were hard to find but they were there. maybe 25 bucks each.

Yup, you definitely want a triangle about 5 or 6 feet on a side.
The woofers center should be a little below the height of your ears.

They are powerfull suckers. I've got one of those tall computer desks and put a pair of heavy-duty bookshelf supports on each side for each speaker but they are too close too.

Sounds dang nice tho...

mdf? so what materials you think I sohuld be usin then?

I can't even find any links for some DIY stands, I've been searchin everywhere...haha

My pops suggested hanging them from the cieling - hanging a piece of wood (with chains) or something, and then just make a little shelf that extends to the ground too...but the chains will give most of the support I'd imagine. I said that'd be nuts unless it was somehow stable cuz ones the monitors start bumpin, they will start moving like crazy. ha.

I recently purchased a pair of BX5's and a pair of BX8's that were on sale. I made a pair of stands using 3" ABS black plastic drain pipe, 3" ABS toilet mounting flanges, and those round, white melamine laminate discs, (a 12" for the bottom, and an 18" for the top) all from Home Depot. I filled the pipe approximately halfway with pea gravel to keep them from tipping over. I used solvent/glue for the bottom, but not the top, in case I want to remove or add gravel, Finished height 42". They work great and don't look bad at all. Using those for my electronic drum kit. The other pair are sitting on a nice workstation desk I got from Staples office supply for $139 + tax. It's perfect for music, is on castors, and accomodates all my gear. I'd be happy to email pics, or post pics on this forum if that is possible. Regards ;)

I've seen some that were basically just two square pieces of plywood with 6 in diameter PVC pipe between them. You can fill the pipe with sand for extra weight. dtb has some in these pics:

I'd love pics! ha...thanks guys I'm gonna compare and see what's easiest i suppose...

Plywoods or hardwoods like a birch. I've seen too many desks and stands made outta mdf give and even break within a year or two so I don't recommend that material for putting heavy things on. The idea with the plastic pipes can work, seen that done for smaller monitors, I just worry about stability especially when you start investing over a thousand on monitors.
