I got a budget (legend)bassguitar on loan from a friend

and it produces a buzz ..

the buzz deminishes to acceptable levels when I touch the strings(anywhere) so I presume the problem is related to bad grounding ..

could the use of a DI box with a ground lift (like the behry DI100) resolve this problem ?

dont want to replace the pickups with humbuckers and rewire someone elses bass :)

may help a bit, but there is always a chance that it will just buzz a bit. stand up and rotate your entire body like a compass and you will likely find a point where the buzz is almost gone.

Hope this helps,

Jim

Make sure the amp you are using has a grounding terminal on the 110 plug. You can also find a way to ground yourself or the metal parts of the bass to cut out te buzz.

sighhhh... welcome to my world. I have a budget bass with a great tone but a monster buzz. I plant my pinky on the metal knobs and that does the trick. ;) My bass is usually so buried in the mix that no one can hear the buzz anyway...sighhh I guess it's time to spring for a real stingray....

Wow, I have a budget bass (jap made Fender Percission) and it has no buzz, but lame tone. I'm hoping a active EMG will help.
Anyway, try plugging the bass amp into a different outlet in the house. Could be a phase problem.

Phase? You mean maybe the outlet is sharing the nuetral with an incadescent light? That could cause buzz in audio equipment. But most amps are 110 volts, just single phase.

hmm that might be usefull coz it only stood out at a moment where I was playing harmonics on a bass so i HAD to release the strings and release the buzz-beast

so I'll retrack that with my pinky on the bridge, or on a knob

maybe later when I get sick of that ill try the sockets and DI sollutions thanx for the input guys

Just bought a Behry DI100 with a ground lift switch ...

This weekend I'll give it a shot and hope for the best ..
