Put a bridge across those two racks for monitors maybe?

i have thought about that. i am actually making the top recessed section modular, so if i ever get a large console or something again, i can remove the racks and put a flat shelf in. i am sure i can do the same with a back shelf. i was planning on putting my monitors (speakers) on the top of the racks. as it is right now, my DM24 (used as a control surface) will go in the recessed area in the center.

An elevated bridge will be a bad idea after long hours at the desk. Ideal computer screen placement should be where the top edge of the screen is at or below eye level. Anything higher puts unnecessary strain on neck and back. If anything, the monitor should be at a lower level than the main worksurface.

finished it saturday. wahoo. havent got it stained yet. i will post some pics later today anyway. i could not wait to get my gear in it. ALL my cables are now inside. i have no mess all over the back of the gear like i used to. i can actually walk all the way around.. ;)

Make sure to get us some pics. I've been interested in building a simple desk for my board, basically just so I can have a better place to put my monitors and better organize everything, but I lack in wood working skills. What kind of wood did you use for this?

sorry, my camera phone sucks. here are some pics though. it is made entirely of 3/4" maple plywood. i am going to stain it black (not paint, stain) then i will put some 1 1/2" thick solid wood caps on the ends and stain them a pecan or something light brown..

i will build one for anyone that wants one. i think i can do it for about $800. it will be unfinished, and you have to come pick it up. ;) anyone interested? if not, the plans are above. good luck.. haha

That's a serious looking desk man. Nice job.

I'll probably be posting a couple pictures soon of my latest desk. I was using an old desk I grew up with. It was my sister's when we were kids and our family has always held onto it. Somehow, some way or another I ended up with it at my house. It was made when PC simply mean politically correct, so it obviously doesn't work for a computer sitting on it, but I've been using it. Just this weekend I started installing a counter top style work station that I got from the place I work. I think it'll work perfectly for what I'm doing.

finally got the stain on. still working on the mahogany end caps

sorry the pics are kinda crappy. there is a file size limit

That's good stuff. I love the reel to reel on the side. :)

thanks guys. gotta luv vu meters and reels.. they definately add to the atmosphere. i wish clients would actually wanna use the thing.. haha. no one wants to buy tape.

That desk is so awesome.

I've always wanted to build one, but I never get around to it, and once September rolls around, I'll definitely be too busy.

I'll see if I can post a picture of my desk sometime this week. I actually got it for free from work. It's more like a counter top than a desk, but it was custom made for use with a computer. It works so well in my control room you'd almost think I had it made just for me.
