BR-8 to .wav conversion software question (dumb new user?)

I'm trying to convert a 6-track BR-8 song file to .wav format using the Roland/Boss BR-8 conversion software: However, it looks like I can only select 2 of the 6 tracks to convert?

Am I missing an elementary step somewhere? Do I need to mix down my 6 tracks to 2 before I convert to .wav, and if so, how do I do that (my plan is to take the BR-8 Zip Disk files, convert them to .wav, then burn to CD on my office computer)?

Thanks,
Jon

I have owned my BR8 for about a year. I run my BR8 into Cakewalk on my computer via the digital out on the back of the BR8. Or you could even just go buy a CD burner ( componant style) and run your digital out through the BR8 into the digital in of the CD burner. You can even use the analog outs on the BR8 if you want. I dont reccomend it because I like to keep it all digital.

If you would like to hear the quality I am getting check this out: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/357/steven_diemert.html

If you dont have a computer at home, I would say go get a CD burner and start putting your tunes onto disk. This way you can use all 8 tracks, instead of being forced to mix down to 2.

Good luck.

Steven, thanks, I went to check out your stuff at work yesterday but our firewall wouldn't let it through: heard "Slow Train" & "Run Away" (nice big sound) today and liked it. I have a home PC but I don't think it's not up to snuff to run Cakewalk, and I have no CD burner there (could get an external I guess)...

I do have a CD recording/dubbing deck [Aiwa XC-RW700] at home with an digital in (optical): sounds like what I might want to do is run direct from the BR-8 digital out to the Aiwa? I hope I can do that rather than run through my receiver, because it's a relic of the mid-80s and has no digital inputs or outputs:

Will a direct run from the BR-8 to the Aiwa work? (The Aiwa manual says to "connect the Optical CD-R/RW IN jack to the optical rec/out jack on your receiver or processor." Is the BR-8 my "processor" that will deliver the Line level signal to the Aiwa deck to record?)

Thanks for your help: I'm very impressed with what I've been able to do on the BR-8 in only 2 hrs. (after giving up on my Tascam 414 a year or so ago because it was cumbersome to work with)... can't wait to pull out my Kalimba, baritone guitar and other goodies to work with.

regards,
Jon

Jon,

Sounds like you have all the equipment you need bro. The Aiwia CD burner will work for you. You may need to get a optical cord from Best Buy or something. But once you have the cord, you will be good to go.

Practice with it at first to find out if you are getting the right volume level once the CD is burned. If it is too low, simply turn the Master up on the BR8.

Rock On!

Steven

You can only convert two tracks at a time using the BR-8 with the Br-8 converter.

If you're talking about converting a complete mix, then yes, you would have to mix it all down to two tracks and then convert that to a wav. And you will get a better sound that way, too, than by using any other method.

Thanks to all... I've done a quick try with the fiber optic cable and it seems to be very good audio quality and much easier than converting to 2-track first.

Thanks.
