boss metalzone and channel 1 mesa boogie triple rec

ok as alot of you know ive been playing thru a boogie triple rec for a while now...

i recently purchased a boss metalzone pedal...i like the sound...
I have been playing it thru my channel 1 set on clean on my boogie...sometimes using the solo for a boost...
now when i plug straight into the boogie from my esp it sounds like there's some boost to it...
that is it doesn't sound clean clean there's a little boost to give it an electrified kinda slight distortion sound to it...
it almost sounds like the speakers are stressed when trying to play uhmm acoustic so to speak....
when i play thru the metalzone pedal and play thru my gmajor (not both at once ) it sounds fine with those types of distortion...
is it possible to fook up my channel 1 playing this way?...
is there anything i can to to repair the problem?
are my speakers stressed?
should i buy my speakers some depressants? :)

I can't think of any way you could have screwed up channel 1. Have you tried backing off the gain on the amp? It is possible that you just have the gain staging goofed up from when you have the pedals engaged.
 
how can i fix the gain stage goof and get it back to normal?
 
Ummm....turn the gain down and the master up.


IF that isn't the problem, you might have a preamp tube going south on you.
 
ive turned gain down and master up running guitar straight thru to the boogie...must be a tube issue...is there anyway to check to figure out which tube is bad or going bad? or do i need to take it somewhere to ahve someone look at it?..

It's going to be one of the 12ax7's.

Do the other channels sound normal? Do you ever use them?

If you have a triple rec, why would you use a metal zone? (or even the G-major)

its because i like the sound...i replaced the tube marked in the picture below with a 12ax-7-c...is it possible even though the 12's are not all for channel 1 that one of them could affect the channel one?

You could just have the second half of the tube going bad on you. That one is excusive to the clean channel. But, if you changed it and it is still distorting, it's not the tube. That would be the only tube that wouldn't effect the other channels.

Might be time to take it in.
 
ok i just bought a new 12ax7 tube and interchanged it down the line checking each one...still the same...im really starting to think it may be the speakers...

******** just hooked the boogie out to another speaker...same buzz...

damn it hit wrong and double posted...sry

is it possible its one of the 12ax7's? or the 5u4gb's?...its coming up on two years that ive have the head and no tube change...is it possible its just the tubes all together?...maybe i need to just replace all the tubes....
ive been looking at some ruby 12ax7's...possiblyi guess that raises another question...can i go with all 6l6's or should i mix them up like the way it came...that is six 6l6's and 3 5u4gb's and the five 12ax7's?.....or should i use el-34'?...im not really hip on the different types of tubes and the different types of sounds they create...

The 6L6's are the power tubes. You can replace them with 6L6's or EL34's. EL24's tend to be softer and warmer sounding than 6L6's. I'm not sure that is what you want, since you like the sound of solid state distortion. The EL34's would tend to round the sound off more than 6L6's

The 5u4gb's are the rectifier tubes, you can only replace them with the same. Chances are, these are not used up and don't need to be replaced.

The 12ax7's are the preamp tubes. I would probably stick with them even though you can replace them with any tube that is named 12a-something-7. The 12ax7 is the most powerful of the family of tubes, anything else will mess with the gain structure of the amp. That might be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on taste and/or how you use the amp. With an amp as complex as this, swapping the preamp tubes with something else could have unpredictable results.
 
are you sure you have not redialed Channel 1 after starting to use the Metal Zone.

have you considered a different high gain amp and actually using the amps gain/distortion instead of a pedal. since the triple rectifier is 150 watts, you can't really krank it.

god i feel dumb...i forgot all about the battery in it...
