I'm a newbie in digital recording. I've been recording analog for some time, though. And my 1st post was dedicated to a wrong forum ... so you can tell I'm a newbie in here, too. ;)

My question was about the BOSS BR-8 Digital 8-Track Studio. I'm wondering if anyone here has used it or is using it, and how well this stand-alone can perform. Or do stand-alone's all suck? Go for computer-based unit?

My recording will consist no more than 3 instruments (guitar, drums, and piano/keyboard) as well as a vocal. I'll need editing and copy/paste function, but not extensively.

Please advise! :)

Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but the BR-8 can play back 8 tracks, but only record 2 at a time. Stand-alone units are really nice for the money, and they are portable. I picked out the Korg D16 after some research. I actually picked mine up for 949$, which is about 300$ more than the BR-8 (if shopping musician's friend). Anyways, with the D16, you get 8 track recording (16 bit, uncompressed) and 4 track recording (24 bit, uncompressed). Check it out at www.korg.com they are really cheap now since they should be discontinued soon.
