The Pie Guy
Hi Fellas,
I went back to my very first Cool Edit Files and decided to work on the ones that sucked mix wise...but were worth working on...

This is my first attempt..
If you didn't hear (or would even remember) it from the first time round...well...I guess I just need basic mixing comments...
I appreciate all that I have learned here from the fellows that I respect and have shared their knowledge....
(yes...that means you too Harris... :D )

Boarder Road....at Soundclick...

or...at NoWhereRadio.... Thanks Waldo! :D

nice tune

I would pull the acu. gtr back a tiny bit and prob. pan a bit more left

and I don't know how many tracks the drums and percus. are on, but if you could pan some of the percus. "out", I think it would create some depth there (like the congas/bongos?, panned right ect.)

Hey BG,
How goes it my friend? :D
I guess you heard it before because I did re-track the bass for this mix.....
Bass is a SX P-Bass copy direct into a Mackie 1402VLZ and into the soundcard from there...tracked and EQ-ed in Cool Edit....
I rolled a shitload off of the lows on the bass...
Thanks for checking it out Dann..

Hi elephant,
Welcome to the boards man,
The drums were recorded by my pal Joey Drago in Louisiana...He records analog 2" tape with a slew of mics...
I do know that the congas were tracked seperately but I cannot alter anything except for the levels on the drums...
He did not send seperate tracks...
(I do wish that he did though...ya know?)
a little left and lower on the guit? I can do that...thanks man... :D

Take it easy fellas,
Joe

i'm hearing some clipping and distortion in some parts......seems to be mainly when the kick drum is playing.......i'm not listening on great speakers, so that could be the reason.....but that being said, the same speakers never distort on commercial tuners..........so maybe wait to see what others say........

i like the drums.....the acoustic sounds pretty good too........

nice song

hello, joro,

is this mix mono or am I going def? if it's stereo, I say track another acoustic guitar with a duller tone, and hard pan them. Nice tune, remind me of Alanis Morsit (??i can't spell for s#$t) I wonder why the drum kit and the acoustic guitar sound so thin. The snare and guitar especially, sound like they were badly encoded into mp3. They really sound like they got everything but mid-highs cut off from them

the bass line is a bit off around 0:50, and sounds a little odd during some fills. Other than that, this is a great tune, just needs a little mixing to polish it up:)

Powderfinger

Thanks for checking it out man.
I will check out the distortion but, it shouldn't be clipping...
I will be doing a re-mix soon...thanks man...

Hi Al,
This is a stereo mix...
When I re-mix, I will re-track a new guit and re-track the bass line again....I will also see what I can do about the drum mix EQ.
Thanks man,
I appreciate your ears.

Take it easy fellas,
Joe

I think this may have been encoded at a low quality.. it sounds like I'm hearing a low-fi mono version.. I hear clipping..

I streamed the hi-fi at soundclick, then I downloaded the NWR version and they're both the same.. I think something happened with the encoding.. check it out..

There really isnt a difference when I switch my amp to mono. I dont use my BBE sonic maximizer anymore but would try it on this tune. The Bass drum is distorting bad. I did like the song. Reminds me of some Blind Melon. Its really hard to remix real old stuff. I have tried recently and it can be real frustrating. Good Luck.

damn...:(

how come i never get to work with hot sounding chicks :( :(

This tune sounds real good Joro. I really heard some nice hits from the drums in there, kick especially has some nice full WHACKS! The acoustic is popping out sometimes a little boomy, and at other times it gets back to top endy. Good stuff i'm a groovin on.

Thanks fellas,
I re-mixed what I have as is and paid special attention to the encoding after mixdown...(Thanks Sam)
A new mix which is hopefully in stereo is up at NoWhere....
Soundclick is down right now...the old one is still there....

Myx62
I am starting to feel that way....
Maybe i just need to start from scratch....

Yeah man...Joey can beat them skins....he is a real pro musician...he is real talented on the guit and bass too...
Glad you dug the tunage and the singer is also the co-writer of the lyric...her name in Ulli and she has a great voice and is an excellent writer...

I am burned out with music now....

Football in 1/2 hour

where's my beer... :D

joro,

I never heard the old mix but, this one sounds pretty slick!

There's a good balance between all the instruments and the singer has a great voice!

My only suggestion mix-wise, would be to take a little bit off the vocal in the 2.5 khz range by about 1 - 2 db as she gets a little gritty sounding on some notes.

I was also hearing some play that was not completely tight and together in the guitars and drums. Perhaps the song is worth of a re-do with a totally tight performance and you could have a ready for prime-time hit on your hands!

Very nice stuff!

Cheers! :)

This is very smooth. I like the tone on the acoustic, its natural and smooth sounding. Bass is good, the drums sound good, just a bit strong on the toms, and the kick has some transients that happen on 1 a few times during the verses. I like the bongo`s... Vocal track is really sweet.

hey Ghost,
Thanks...I am gonna try...I do have the Vox and guits seperate so we'll see man....glad you dug it...
The "un-tightness" is all my fault....my timing sucks....
workin' on it though man....workin' on it :D

Thanks again man....

Hey Kenny,
Thanks for checking it out man....
I am so surprised that no one has mentioned anything wrong with the bass track....
I never can get it perfect....not yet anyways...
Thanks man,
Joe

Joe,
Funny. I remember this the first time you sent me your link to check out your stuff when we did our HRC collab. This was the first tune I listened to. I like it a lot. Nice work.

I think everyone has already covered you on the mix. I agree it sounds a little mono now. I am not sure if this is the mp3 or not. You might look into that. Drums sound nice. Must be nice to play with a real drummer! :D

Nice work!

Todd

I think I remember this one the first time around. I like this song, very good groove to it.

The vocals sound like they can still come up in the mix. They seem to be mixed pretty far back. Nice playing, but there were a few places (mostly during the chorus) where there seemed to be a few timing issues. I agree that it does sound a bit mono (listening on head-phones) but it didn't quite sound as mono in the car this morning.

I really dig those vocals! Very good work there.

:D

Hi Todd,
That's just the problem man....
Drums were done after everything else and it never works that way...ya know?
Another issue is that my left ear is acting up again.......
I gotta go see a Doc because it's getting worse......all plugged up like...
Thanks for checking it out again Todd....
My best to the Mika and the rug rat man :D

Hi Boydrj...
The consensus is definitely in and I don't know how to adjust physically...
I did a re-mix man...
I eq-ed the vox,.....did a stereo field seperation by wav form visually and by the numbers instead of by my ears :( and hard limited after.......

I can't tell if it's better or not.....
I hate not being able to hear correctly....ya know?
Thanks man,

I won't be able to re-track.....
Ulli is in Nashville now and Joey is in Louisiana...
Maybe someday though....who knows....

Thanks again fellas...
Joe
