I've just bought the MK012 ( with caps)
I ordered it from a mail order company here in UK, and when I opened it it's a black one with A.S.M printed on the side.
At first I thought it was a cheap knock off, but it came complete with paperwork (all in Russian) and a testers' signature corresponding with the serial no.
So I assume it's the real deal - I just haven't seen a black one before.
What's the deal with all these different variations of the MK012/MC012?

I've never seen a black pair of MC012's.

The champaigne colored ones I have also have ASM on them. I think it stands for "A Superior Microphone." :D

Lo Beam, Where did you place your order? I live in Italy and don't know of any reliable web sites here in Europe for music gear. I'd like to find something better than buying in the states and waiting for someone to lug it over here for me.

The "ASM" marking in fact stands for "Angus S. McKay," the importer who claims sole distributorship for the UK and US. I have never seen a non-ASM Oktava marked with the MK designation.

Kipper - I got mine via ebay but it's brand new & the guy sells a lot of stuff on there.
Send an email to info@studiowizard.com & I'm sure he'll be able to sort something out. I paid £160 (which is a good £40 cheaper than the cheapest shops or sites here, and A LOT less than the Oktava sites' RRP of £350)
I think he will ship anywhere too.
