Hey doesn't Fullcompass have Beyers' ?
I'm sure it would cost less than sweetwater.

I called them - $426.77 for the M160. But it's not in stock. They have to order it. A lot cheaper than $595.97 Sweetwater wants. (How do those guys manage to sell anything?

To hear how a M160 sounds on vocals, besides Bowie's "Low" album, Steve Windwood's on the album "Dear Mr. Fantasy" were
tracked by one.

...the ".80" version has a big bass roll off...

You ain't kiddin'! There's no bottom on those at all. That makes them of more limited application, but they're still really cool on some things (like drum overheads when you want mostly cymbals).

the m160 is the most hi fi of the models...

Great mic. Also check out the M130, which is the figure-8 brother to the hypercardioid M160. Love 'em both.

Kind of surprised no one brought up the M88, or M88TG.
Not a ribbon, but can be awesome nonetheless! (like a 441)

The M88 is a real classic mic, not to mention the M201 which is a great mic too.

But you can't compare them to the ribbons, ribbons are so different. A very special "breed" of mics.

The M260 for example is very very cardioid, but the off axis response is amazingly nice. And you'll have minimal bleed too.

Great mics, these Beyers though.

Well THEY "started it"! (talking about 441)

All kidding aside, I plan to get a nice Beyer ribbon eventually.

i may be biased... but i would say given the following assumptions:

1) you record drums
2) you record drums in a bad room
3) you record drums in a room with poorly isolated amps
4) you have $200

there is nothing better for you to do than buy a used m260

they have amazing rejection, they make lousy cymbals sound pretty good. tracks recorded with the m260 take to eq and compression well.

when i first got mine, it made recording drums a million times easier. very thick snares, great toms, bass drum sounds good, cymbals just amazing. throw in a snare mic and a bass drum mic... and you might not even have to use them... (you kinda need the bass drum for the sub stuff)

anyway, what a great mic.

i am remixing this guys song where he did his drums with some newish condenser mic. the drummer was a cymbal basher, and damn! those drums are impossible to work with!

i cant believe that people go out there and record drums in a crappy room with crappy cymbals with mxl 603s or something like that. i have never been able to get a good sound out of a SD condenser unless i only use dark cymbals and the drummer is really good.

and how often does that happen?
