i may be biased... but i would say given the following assumptions:
1) you record drums
2) you record drums in a bad room
3) you record drums in a room with poorly isolated amps
4) you have $200
there is nothing better for you to do than buy a used m260
they have amazing rejection, they make lousy cymbals sound pretty good. tracks recorded with the m260 take to eq and compression well.
when i first got mine, it made recording drums a million times easier. very thick snares, great toms, bass drum sounds good, cymbals just amazing. throw in a snare mic and a bass drum mic... and you might not even have to use them... (you kinda need the bass drum for the sub stuff)
anyway, what a great mic.
i am remixing this guys song where he did his drums with some newish condenser mic. the drummer was a cymbal basher, and damn! those drums are impossible to work with!
i cant believe that people go out there and record drums in a crappy room with crappy cymbals with mxl 603s or something like that. i have never been able to get a good sound out of a SD condenser unless i only use dark cymbals and the drummer is really good.
and how often does that happen?
