Best Acoustic Mic

Also, I was thinking of maybe trying to put together a small "soundhole" eletret condenser system for acoustic guitar. Pannasonic sells a small eletret condenser capsule for about $3.00 with internal fet (about size of pencil diameter), a little wiring for "dummies" like me, nine volt....inventive housing, external equalizer.

Others say that the Marshall's are not that good a mic. I was thinking about buying one last year (I think it was zzounds, for $99.00), but changed my mind.

I don't think much of the Marshall MXL-2001, but with some work, it can be improved. I think the Marshall V67G and the 603S mics are a great value, but that's just my opinion, and a number of other engineers' opinions who find them very useful on many sources.

Panasonic does indeed make a very excellent capsule, but you might find the output a little low and the capsule a little too noisy for quiet acoustic guitar recording. A 1/2" omni might be a better choice.

Thanks Harvey,
I appreciate the info.
I was also thinking about live sound (panasonic capsule)...?
What do you think?

Panasonic makes an excellent omni capsule that several companies use as a calibration mic element, but the noise on these small capsules can be a problem unless you have a really high quality amplifier built into the mic.

The "FET" that comes with the mic element is simply an impedence convertor. You'll still need a high quality mic preamp built into the mic body to get the level high enough without introducing its own self noise.

I've pretty much made up my mind and after reading tons and tons of posts, I've decided on the Studio Projects C1 & a MXL603.

Thanks for the help.

The C1 is an excellent mic for acoustic instruments. There have been many MP3's put up with the C1, but they will not impact you as much as when you make your first recording using one.

If you need any information regarding your purchase, let me know. If you already have that in place, then happy recording, you're going to love the C1.

Get 2 of the 603s, you'll love them. They sound much better on an acoustic recording in stereo. Also, you can get them at Abe's in Miami for $65 each.
