Behringer Equipment??

I want to buy a condenser mic and i have been looking at the following ones mainly because they fall within my price range:

MXL 990 £79
Studio Projects B-1 £64
Behringer B1 £77
Samson C01 £57
Samson C03 £70

If you had to go for one of the above mic's which would it be?? Are there any others in the under £100 price range that you would recomend??

Based on user feedback, of those, SP B1 without a doubt, every time. The price is a bonus! I would also recommend looking at the ADK and SE mics at that price range ... and Red5 are a little-known UK secret that some well-respected reviewers reckon are worth a punt. You buy them direct from their website.

EDIT - I should say that the only LDC I own from that price range is the SE Electronics SE2200. I think it's an excellent first condenser - and on my listening tests I thought it was much 'better' than the Samson CO1 and Behringer B-1.

LOL !!! I get the humor as I work with several Londoner's in my office (I just found out 2 yrs ago what "shag" meant !!!)

Brutha', my utter dislike & contempt for Behringer is based solely on 2 factors;

1)-Mixers that are so poorly designed and constructed along with being totally unreliable during operation, one understands ye olde proverb uttered by Mae West when she stated "There's a SUCKER born every minute!"
D@mn! Home-girl was right on the money!!

2) Beh's Customer-Diss-Service: Thier are no words in any language spoken on the planet Earth that describes their total ineptitude!

Why recommend Beh gear to a newbie who after the wising up period on Beh's shortcomings realizes that the only person who'll buy this sh#t is another sucker who knows no better...that's if he can find one!

Mind you, I am some kind of hypocrite as yr and a half ago I did buy the ECM8000 omni ($35US) as it does have some uses, but did you know that the plastic mic case that houses the ECM (after removing the foam) is actually a
Maxell cassette holder!!?? Now how cheeeeep is that!?
Mannnn, I could go on & on &on &on &on.............

I'll just talk about the mics I have experience with:

The SP B1 is a great mic for the money.

The Samson CO1 was the first LDC I bought and it's never made it's way onto any recordings. I hate that mic.

If you can find an MXL V67 then that's another very nice cheap mic but they're not as easy to get hold of in the the UK. I got mine on ebay off a US seller and I think with carriage and VAT it ended up costing me around £100. There's one here.

Of course it's always good to try before you buy with most gear but I think it's especially important with mics. I'm lucky in that at the studio where we practice the owner lets me check out some of the gear and mics he has there if I'm thinking of buying something.

Despite having a few condensor mics now I still mostly record my own voice with an SM-58. That's just the way it happens sometimes.

I like my SP B1 quite a bit more than my MXL 990.
