Harvey, you appear younger to me than a lot of guys with less milage. I'm glad you still hang around with us!
I know you don't like me Harvey, but to be honest I love reading all your post. Thanks for not letting this thread turn into another round of shit.Harvey Gerst said:Actually, it reminds me of the old Aesop's Fable about the Turtle and the Scorpion.
DJL can't help being who he is, anymore than I can be someone other than who I am.
That's another unwarranted assuption, DJL. I find you to be a valuable contributor here - as long as the subject doesn't involve Alan Hyatt or PMI Audio products. I also happen to respect chessrock and acorec, although we've had disagreements from time to time.DJL said:I know you don't like me Harvey, but to be honest I love reading all your post. I can respect that... the thing I have problems with is when someone misleads others in hope of personal gain. One of the things I like about you is that you tell it how you see it and go the extra mile... for example, you ran over a RNC to prove it was made out of metal rather than plastic... and how to find simi matched mics is a store, your big thread is great also... what I like is that you give your honest opinion about a product and your not on someones payroll... and I like how you opened up the SP C1 and MXLV67G and posted pictures of the insides and talk about their construction and etc. I wish you'd do more of that again.Harvey Gerst said:That's another unwarranted assuption, DJL. What I DON'T like (from anybody) is wild speculation instead of facts, inuendo, unfounded rumours, and the general dissing of anybody for their opinion (when it's stated as their opinion).
I've talked to a lot of the real pros (not me, the "real" pros) about this and it's one of the big reasons they've just about given up on visiting these forums. And they're right; why hang out where a bunch of anonymous wannabees lurk, just to take potshots at the big guns?
It's happened to Stephen Paul, George Massenburg, Bob Ohlsson, Al Schmitt, Steve Albini, Fletcher, Mixerman, and a bunch more of the real pros - all with major league credentials.
Yes, everybody's "equal" here; we all have a right to state our opinion. But when we disagree in a disrespectful way, we lose the opportunity to glean some of the knowledge these people have acquired from years of experience.
Should we hafta bow to these people? Hell no, and they don't want that either. But at least they deserve some measure of respect for what they've achieved over their careers. That also goes for Alan Hyatt, who at least had the balls to come out with a new line of products that a lot of people find useful at a low price.
It's never been about likeing or disliking anybody; for me, it's always been about at least respecting people for what they've done, whether you like it or not.
You can do that too, DJL. All it takes is a $5 set of jeweler's screwdrivers and a $40 digital camera. So open 'em up and show us what you got!DJL said:...and I like how you opened up the SP C1 and MXLV67G and posted pictures of the insides and talk about their construction and etc. I wish you'd do more of that again.
And better glasses... lol.Flatpicker said:You can do that too, DJL. All it takes is a $5 set of jeweler's screwdrivers and a $40 digital camera.
I hope HR.com didn't drive all of those listed away.Harvey Gerst said:

No it's not... that wasn't the last thread Fletcher participated in. His last post was when he answered my question.H2oskiphil said:Based on the backlash he got in the last thread he participated in, I kinda doubt Stephen would be back much, if at all...
Stephen's last hurrah at HR.com
Fletcher said:It's a fairly common universal problem with all the Chinese mics, not just the Studio Projects... in some worlds it's called "quality control"... or lack thereof
Oh Harvey, lets focus on learning and helping others and not turn into a H2oskiphil "crap poster boy". ThanksHarvey Gerst said:Thanks for the links. I missed those threads completely the first time. I love the part where chessrock calls me a "wannabee guru". Gotta love him for making people feel all warm and fuzzy about their contributions to this forum.
It's so nice to know you're appreciated.![]()
Well, I don't think your above post is helping anyone... but otherwise, your great at helping others. Thanks for all your help.Harvey Gerst said:It's just that I thought I caught all the insults the last time around. I was actually thanking H2oskiphil for pointing out some threads I missed. Out of that thread, I was only mentioned two times and only once by name - one where Stephen posted for me to call him since he was having trouble with my email address, and the other was the "wannabee mic guru" reference by chessrock.
Did that sarcasm bother me? Yes, but not like it use to. As I said in another thread, I am who I am, and that's not gonna change any time soon. If I can help, I will. If people don't think I'm helping, I'll stop.
Right now, I'm waiting for the big mic thread to hit 66,666. Interesting that with that many views, only 45 people thought enough about it to vote on it. And some people didn't think it was all that informative a thread.
chessrock was right about Stephen and me leaving the last time. Was I run off, or was it simply no longer a good use of my time? Doesn't make much difference, does it? The end result is still the same. Why contribute to anything if your contribution isn't appreciated? Or denigrated?
About the only "wannabee" status I strive for is that I "wannabee alive" tomorrow morning. Everything else is gravy.
