I have never used compressors before I bought this. So I don't know what to think. I just read a post about people hating the 3630 and making vague(negative) references to behringer stuff? Is behringer stuff crap? I always thought that they made quality products but then again I'm a rank ameteur. I just bought this last week at guitar center so if there's a better one for the money I'd appreciate the heads up while I still have time to return the autocom pro. thanks for any help in advance,

Actually, do a search for posts by sonusman and MisterQCue... they both have some experience with those particular units and have mentioned them specifically in the past.

Better sound quality then construction quality.

I have had some experience with Behringer stuff. I have found it to be very clean, quiet, versatile gear.

In the old days, when Behringer was starting out, they seemed to copy other product lines design. I believe they have survived the law suits that followed with nothing more then a raise for their in-house legal team.

But, it would seem that this said raise might have effected the quality of the materials they use to make their products. The current batch of Behringer gear has some pretty flimsy cases, which is really little concern if you are going to mount it in a rack in your studio and keep it their.

Their old stuff had bigger knobs (but were still kind of small) and sturdier cases. But, I have used a new Composer recently, and it sounded every bit as good as their older ones did.

Extremely good quality sound for the price. In fact, I would venture to say that the RNC is the closest thing to it in bang for the buck.

You will probably need to use it for quite some time, then have some access to a much higher end compressor to appreciate the difference.

Stick with it for now. It should serve you well.

Good luck.

Your 1st compressor s/b an RNC as it is both smooth and transparent and fits in you coat pocket.
The Behringer Comps are decent and effective and serve my purpose well. Not great, but they do get the job done, especially in the arena of gating.

autocom 1400 pro

I just bought the the autocom pro in december and am very pleased. I looked at a lot of compresors and found that it had a lot of good things for the money and the sound is pretty clean I like the auto seting when recording vocals is seems to provide the best of both worlds.I was useing an aleses compresor before i bought the behringer and the sound on the autocom is much better. I think that you made a good buy for the price range, however if you can afford more than the higher end dbx stuf sounds a lot better.

hope that helps kole.

I've only been using the Autocom for a couple months. But, I think its a great deal for the money. The RNC is supposed to be great, but you only get a single (stereo) channel. The autocom provides pretty transparent compression and fairly low noise. It also has some cool extras like the expander and the auto features. The manual goes into pretty good detail too and gives some decent starting points. A lot of bang for your buck IMO.
