Hey hey hey, no synth bass on my songs man! (well, the next one will have some...but the stuff I posted is real. I'm a bassplayer by origin)

Btw, can I PM you when I need a thundering hammond solo? :)

Ped,

So THAT'S why it sounds so hip.

Regarding your btw....possibly we could work a trade. Wanna lay down the bass track to BEDLAM? I dont think my bass player would mind considering he's pretty thin on spare right now.
PM me in the middle of April when I'm less stretched.

b9, you got the melody sizzlin. Sounds good. The bass patch is good, but I`d pull a little of the low end off and push the punch region a little on it and bring it up. When you increased the left hand along with the rich bass it seems to make a big swell of bottom, kinda like your pumpin pedals. The bass is more detached and away from the kick and snare in this mix, to me, maybe jus me though. :) I get my fix when i get home on rev 1.0 and 1.1, but this is damned good too.

Thanks Ken,

Your ears are always appreciated. I agree totally on the punch region. I intend to drag the bass part over to Cool Edit Pro and tweak it over the summer.

To all: Thank you for your invaluable constructive critiques on this tune. This was my first 'clinic 'post and I have learned much as I know 'jack' about the fine points of homerecording. I will continue to post critiques from a compositional viewpoint especially to those who were kind enough to give me a listen. Alas, it's time to put Bedlam to bed. Thanks again!

peace,

Aw man, I have to practice my ass off for that man! :D

I'll try, I'll let you know if I can pull it off ;)

that whaled!! cant offer any mix comments right now.. great listen though.. I have to read and see how you did the drums.. probably the sickest keys I've ever heard here.. nice!

Man,

Last time I heard music this good, was Neil Larson!!!

Absolutely, TOO COOL!!

Great recording, also!!

Hope Mr.Q hears this one.

GT

That's absolutely fantastic. It's totally not my kind of music, but the playing is so good it's just ridiculous!

The programming is also great, and you've got a nice clean sound.

But really - that playing is ridiculous! :)

Cheers

AB

PS Is that a real organ or a virtual synth?

Holy SHIT!!! THAT DIDN'T SUCK AT ALL!!!!!!

Sorry for the screamin', but this deserves it.

I didn't read the comments; I'm truly awed by your keys. I'm not crazy about the drums for some reason...I'd almost think they're real if it weren't for that slappy snare sound, dammit. It's almost perfect. An acoustic bass might have been choice on this.

Screw me man...I'm speaking out of my ass. This is really excellent.

wow, you sound like a real keyboard player! nice chops. and the drums sound almost real. very nice work on that. can't really find anything to complain about here.

erichenryus: Thanks, ya, I am a real keyboard player but I still have a hard time changing my own oil on the van.:o

chrisharris: If you didn't yell, I wouldn't recognize you! ( Did you hear 'fonts' bought the farm last night? He was found last night hanging in the shower, clad in purple pumps, listening to
'Superfreak' in reverse, with all your posts all over the bathroom floor.)
Thanks for your compliments & the listen!
p.s. I love my slappy snare. :D

alibish: Loved your latest post in the clinic! And I love all kinds of music (except broadway and opera, no matter how well played)
It's a Korg BX-3 patch in regards to your query.

GT : Neil Larson!!?? Thanks dude, very appreciated words.:)

B.SABBATH You've got it happening yourself, boy!;)
Elephant ears is what we called them @ Berklee!
Appreciate the listen!

Final mix is now posted @ nowhere. ( File updated 4/5/03 @4:00 AM,ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz) All revisions, relaxing, humanizing, balances, programming edits, reharmonizing, etc., were a DIRECT RESULT of input from you here in this forum and my buds over in the Fostex forum where I first posted it. This is the version to be submitted to the Slackmaster for consideration to the Comps II.

MAY GOD HOLD OUR TROOPS IN THE HOLLOW OF HIS HAND.

Sorry guys,

I couldn't live with it the way it was and tweaked it even further. If you could possibly stomach one more listen, I would appreciate any final critique.

I replaced the secondary organ patch for the repetitive ELP like and lower manual ( left hand part ) for sonic variety.

//Fussed w/ the 'roundness' and db of the bass

// took the snare down a tad

then ran the whole thing thru a "light high hiss " reduction and am hoping your ears will tell me if I knocked out to much of the high end by doing so.

Thanks again & I will submit this to comp II on the weekend after I hear from a few of my friends here and apply any suggestions.

Ralph

Damn !!!!!!!!

This is sweet!!! :D

The high end is still there, I wouldn't take out any more but it still has nice presence. This is my first listen, but I would guess if you had to take some out it could have been on the cymbals/persussion thing goin on. I think it sounds full.

Dude.......you rip!

Submit this.

Sheesh, Ralph...

.....you're a monster!:D

Laid back & burnin'!

Any critique on this would be nit-picking at best.

Print it!

notched back right into the belly of the groove. Cool!! That last chord opposing the root at the resolve is like a cat with its back arched....then it springs away
I like the imagery..

Print this thang before you strip the threads on it!!! :)

LOL! Great pic! :D

I'm diggin this on a nice sunday afternoon. Awesome playing..damn you must have four hands and 20 freakin fingers! This sounds great on my speakers. You're as good on key's as i've heard, and better than most. Enjoyed the recording much!

David

There are a lot of problems with this. Too many to point out, really, but I'll give an example. or 2. First, this wasn't recorded for use on one of MY songs. Secondly, it's not loud enough.

Actually, the second criticism is semi-serious. Seemed to have a little too much headroom that never got used.

Everything else was actually stellar to me. I haven't read any of the replies, but I can't believe anybody would not love this.

Nice work

sounds pretty nice man.......very, very good playing.........i'm a guitar player, so i'd love to hear some wailing solos, but it sounds really good
