Guernica-Alright, glad you checked out Jacqueline. Thanks very much. The Everlys. How cool, that's a great compliment. Thanks again.

I know what you mean on that! I've been on the computer a lot lately, and I feel completely delirious. Don't know if you saw my comment on your thread about "Dude Looks Like A Lady". I thought later you would think, "what the fuck?". Makes no sense to me either. I am with you completely on the rating thing and competition... Save all that shit for the real world.

Anyway, thanks again, and I look forward to hearing more of your stuff as well, you are obviously very talanted and creative.

Chad-Yo bruvva man, whazizsup? Participant in da hizzouse, yizzall, keepin it rizzeal. How's that? Guess I'm a bit on the honky side, too. Thanks for the Oasis thing, I like them, pretty much, though they get a bit overbearing at times. Yeah, I beat the shit out of myself all the time. Jacqueline might sound a bit brighter cuz I tried to master that one a bit before posting. I left B. L. as is. I sound like Chris, wow, that's a compliment, cuz he's a good singer. I hope he's not insulted! Would be great to appeal to them there college types, speshly fer a droppout like me! Thanks Chad, peace izout.

Great music,as always!

Beautiful Loser is a sweet tune, production was excellent.
Great lyrics,I liked imagery.

Jacqueline was cool, reminds me of some of the early ELO stuff in a way.
Ever hear,Oh no not Susan?
(I had it looping for the last twenty minutes and didn't even realise it,just flows like air.)

Vocals and music are great, but I think the writing is the highlight of your stuff, just wonderful!

Really enjoyed them,thanks.

Pete

Guernica-Yes, good idea.

Pete-Thanks! Beautiful Loser has great lyrics?! Can you say that a little louder so they can hear you in Atlanta? ( :p ;) :D ) Jacqueline sounds like ELO? That's interesting. No, I've never heard that song. I really haven't heard much of their stuff at all. Will have to, though. Thanks very much, Pete.

I know. I was making fun of Crawdad. :D :D Let's all pitch in and get Crawdad a Speak & Spell for Christmas. What the hell am I talkin' about?! On my last post I mentioned Jeff and max doing some killer hamonies. :D That's Boston for "harmonies." :D

What are you talkin' about Chessrock? I USED my speak and spell but Jeff Linn (drum) wasn't even in it! can you fathom that?:D

However, y'all can pitch in and buy me a Great River Pre instead for Christmas. I promise I'll be good and watch my spelling! :D:D:D:D:D

.......or make the votes accountable

I think that anybody who's a force of nature should automatically get at least 3 stars. yeah...and newbies aren't allowed to give anything but automatic five star ratings.

Ditch the rating system? No way! Doesn't the guy who gets the most stars win a Great River pre.....from Chessrock?:D

Nah the person with the most stars gets to choose your next cover :)

Ummm, 'scuse me, guys? Don't mean to be an egomaniac or anything, but could we perhaps, maybe, get back to....ME! , please. And, on that Great River pre, could you make sure it's that new Mercenary one, okay? Thanks.

I think you did an excellent job man. The only problem I have is that there are too many excellent musicians and producers around here I have to compete with ;). So why is there too much crap on the radio?!?! And do star producers take a peek at this forum once a while? I think they should, really.

Wow~You sound Older with your Old setup! The deeper(less highs) vocal kinda scared me for a second :) Is this before you got your Rode(?) Even the style is kinda different, too. Feels like seeing my favorite rockstar's high school yearbook!! Although this is not as good as your recent works(sound wise), it gives more "personal touch" type of feeling.

I am not gonna comment on the music because I don't want you to get tired of me saying, "GREAT ARRANGEMENT, PERFORMANCE, ....ect"

AL

Hey AL, that's pretty funny. The mic was an AT4033, and I suppose there's some proximity effect going on, especially on those first lines. The approach was different, I guess, but there are spots in the new stuff where I think I sing like that, I don't think it's *that* different , but, maybe it is.

I will never get tired of you saying "GREAT ARRANGEMENT, PERFORMANCE, ....ect". :)

Thanks a lot,
macle

Whoa man, I D/L Beautifulloser', speechless man. I can hear my grand kids now..papa, did macle upload anything new this week?:D Naw you'll be long gone before that, riding in that limo with them hot bimbos:eek: ouch sorry max didn't know you were listening. Loved this man!

VERY enjoyable tune!!!

Hey man!

As a former Roland VS-880X owner, (I'm into a Korg D1600 now) you did some really sharp work with that unit!! Terrific Beatles-influenced piece! Lots of fun! It's a dense, cluttered sound, yet I can hear everything clearly with one notable exception (more on that in a moment). That's the sign of a good ear on the mix pots.

The exception: The snare. it's not that the level or EQ is off, because it isn't really; it's that the snare itself is kinda gutless and flabby. A bit loose and lowfor this feel. A little bit snappier of an instrument, and this one is dead-on.

Great neo-retro feel! :D

for you are crunchy, and go well with ketchup.

David-Thanks! Bring on the bimbos! :p pretty sure Max won't mind Thanks a lot for checking it out, David.

Llarion-Hey Phil, thanks very much. I agree about the snare. That was a cheap Yamaha metal snare. Pretty awful. Now I've got a cheap Slingerland maple snare, not quite as awful, but.... Looking forward to a decent snare/kit. Thanks again.

Listened to these 2 songs more...Good arrangement, performance, and etc... :) Were the piano sounds your Alesis Q6's(?) or? I like the piano sounds in your newer stuff alot better. BTW, I also think your voice sounds better without too much reverb.

I was wondering if you could share how you process the acoustic guitar sound at the intro of Jacqueline. Mic'in position, EQing?? I have always wanted to get that sound.

AL

Hi AL,
I think the piano was this little Emu piano box I had, but it might have been the Alesis QS8, not really sure. The acoustic guitar is different, too, an old funky guitar that doesn't stay in tune very well. I put the mic (AT4033) pointed at the sound hole from an angle, if straight in front of me is 12 oclock, than around 11 oclock. Than I sort of adjust around, move around, a little closer, a little farther, angling one way, then another, till it seems good in the head phones. Pick makes a big difference, probably a fairly light pick. EQ, probably just cut the low end. Record the acoustics twice, and pan L/R.

Hope this is of some help. Thanks for the comment about my voice sounding better with less reverb, I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future.

Thanks,
macle
