Hey Wes, that's cool, I mean you don't have to like everything, for sure. Seriously, I really appreciate your honesty, and I encourage it, and everyone's (as long as they're not lobbing shit from behind a curtain ;) ).

These 2 songs will definitely not be on the (supposed) CD, I was just posting some stuff from before for fun, and to see what you guys thought compared to the new stuff. I think on the new stuff, there was definitely an attempt to be more *complete*, including the lyrics, though lots of filler still slipped by cuz we were in a rush at one time.

I guess I get what you're saying about it being more sort of average, and it's good to know there's improvement happening. I just didn't get what you meant by 'weird'.

Oddly, though, personally, for some reason I enjoy listening to these 2 more than some of the newer ones, I don't know why, maybe cuz I hadn't heard them in a while, so they seem kinda fresh and simple to me.

As far as this whole genius vs average thing, I'm gonna ignore that, cuz with that sort of pressure, I"ll never post anything again! :D (I suppose that will make those dickhead(s) happy...)

Seriously, thanks a lot, (how's that Rode NTK and Gigastudio going? And that record co... :) )

hey macle, I finally got to catch the second one jacqueline.. another stellar job.. The only negative thing I can say about both of these tunes is, I like your newer stuff better.. 'this sucks' is my favorite.. I have it in a folder with the all time greatest home rec'er stuff..

Macle--I listened to Beautiful Loser and thought it was great. I am in in total awe at the way you write and produce these catchy pop tunes. You make it sound effortless, but I know otherwise. I have no gift for this kind of stuff, but I wish I did because i'm always a sucker for this style of music. In short, I'm really pulling for you to succeed because--dammit--you deserve to based on talent and merit.

The mix was damn near perfect. The levels and relationships between instruments and vocals was all right on. The only thing I am missing is a little "sheen" which might be overall or just on a couple of instruments--not really sure. Its an area I am trying to get a handle on myself. Stubborn me, I refuse to believe that we can't make pro masters on our home workstations!

Anyway, you do it all really well. I remember how Jeff Lynde would take Beatles influences and put them in his songs. Well, he may have produced "Free As A Bird" but you got it all over him--really.

Im off to listen to the other tune...

yeah a lot of times i get into old songs i wrote, little scratch recordings I made...thinking "man...sure the recording isn't as good as what I'm doing now...but...it had a better vibe." and, hell I'm probably right. plus it's just getting back to your roots somehow.

As far as my stuff it's going alright. So far the NTK hasn't proved that useful on vocals for me (my C1 seems to cut through the mix better) but I havn't played with it enough. On a lot of instruments it is good..

Biggest issue right now is needing a drummer. A lot of times I think we have really good songs and pretty decent productions that are getting killed by drum beats that don't fit the groove...if I get to mixing I'll have some ideas to post soon.

Record co eh, well...I need a record first. Or, we can start with yours, move to Atlanta and we'll give it a go ;)

B. Sabbath-Alright, thanks very much. That's cool you like "Sucks" the best, I think you're the first to pick that one. Max, (my girlfriend/singer/cowriter), and I, both thank you for that!

Crawdad-What can I say, but a big thanks! Your comment about stubbornly trying to make pro masters on home setups, man I know what you mean. There have been many times where I think it's just completely futile, but, for some reason, can't give up.
Thanks again.

Wes-Bummer about the NTK, maybe you can send it back. I'm not that thrilled with mine anymore either. I thought you had a drummer? Atlanta? What time should I expect the limo?

Jeff Lynde. One of my favorites. As a producer, I hear a lot of the influence in Macle's work. I wanna' hear a Macle / Jeff Lynde collaboration. I can just hear Jeff and Max getting all crazy with the background hamonies all over the place. That could get interesting. :D

Sluice-Let me get this straight, JeffMarcomb has never heard it, and thinks it's great, you've felt like you've heard it before, and don't really like it. Hmmm....:p ;) :D That's cool, though, you know, I can handle it, I mean you can't please everyone....:( Glad you like Jacqueline, though! Thanks a lot for checking em out.

Well I certainly can't speak for Jeff here but... I simply expected more from you than what I got with B.L., but Jacqueline I thought was more inspired. BL is OK 2 me. I just personally don't feel anything from it. But that's how this thing works. My last song is something I felt was drenched with emotion, albeit unusual, but yet Chris didn't feel a thing. Very different musical (and probably life) backgrounds, so I wouldn't expect him to. I didn't say B.L. sucked or anything. Creed sucks. This is OK. To me. The end.

You know you rock. Sit back and enjoy! And remember that the other HR forums have the star rating system too. So what do you rate....grammar? :D

As always, great songs and great recording chops. I heard Beautiful Loser and it has your stamp all over it!. It's amazing to me that you can handle to sound so familiar to the Beatles and yet so different and fresh.

Your voice sounds a bit more relaxed in this recordings than in newer ones, but I agree with mixmkr that the recording in general sound less polished than newer stuff.

Anyway, great as always, and remember I won't leave without giving you my "special 1-star rating"!! ;) :D :D :D

Just listened to Beautiful Loser, checking out Jacqueline now. Love 'em both, but leaning slightly toward the first one as my favorite...but damn, that piano work in the second one is very cool. Tough choice! Okay, I'm just gonna like 'em both.
Lyric maybe a touch better in the second one, but both excellent.
I just listened to crawdad's new cover, then your stuff...talk about getting spoiled!
I'll be back in ten years or so with some new stuff...got a little woodshedding to do!

We did have a drummer, wasn't really working out for a couple of reasons. Not really his playing, though on certain styles we were trying to get at he wasn't quite with it. He ended up moving out in the sticks to try to find a cheaper apartment, got to where we were never able to get togethers, so we're looking for someone new. Which is fine, becuase my brother and I are moving to Athens, where the University of GA is (REM got there start there, several well knowns)..pretty good music town. Trying to find people there.

As far as the NTK..yeah it is giving me some weird "airyness" that I definitely didn't expect on my vocals. I thought it would surely give me a well rounded rich lower end, etc. I'm not worried about it though...it's proving useful for other things right now. What are you thinking of going to next? Now that I spent 500 i am thinking "hmmm...that new Stephen Paul is only about 1500!". I made a crazy "to buy" list the other day but had to smack myself for even thinking about it. I'm done with gear for now.

Your limo should be there at 3:30pm tomorrow....you should recognize it becuase it will look something like a beat up '84 Dodge Aires Station Wagon - don't be fooled!!

I've been trying to download these all week and all I get is a page that says the account is temporarily disabled due to high bandwidth violations or some shit! is there somewhere else I can get these tunes?

Psst.Hey guys,thats "Jeff Lynne".

I know. I was making fun of Crawdad. :D :D Let's all pitch in and get Crawdad a Speak & Spell for Christmas. What the hell am I talkin' about?! On my last post I mentioned Jeff and max doing some killer hamonies. :D That's Boston for "harmonies." :D

I think my activity downloading homerecording.com artists alone caused my firm to recently block mp3. Now I gotta listen on my own time!

Me too! Not that many people would notice, but my post rate has dropped significantly. Not due to lack of desire, but lack of time. My home connection isn't fast enough to download MP3s. That's the only way I know to get a Macle tune. That's probably the biggest disappointment - no macle stuff.

mac - please go to Nowhere. :D

chessrock-Jeff Lynde, yeah, when I first posted Joke, which seems like a thousand years ago, a couple people mentioned him. Funny thing was, I didn't really know his stuff, other than I knew he produced some ex-Beatles. I actually really like Free As A Bird/Real Love, even though a lot of people apparently don't. But yeah, that would be great to work with him, for sure, like working with a fifth Beatle, or a fourth Threetle, or now, sadly, a third Twoodle :( . I hear George's new album should be out soon, which Lynde co produced with George's son, looking forward to that.

Kramer-Oh...Jeff Lynne?! He sucks!! What's with the afro? :D

Sluice-Hey, I understand completely about just not liking it, or feeling it, for whatever reason, I was really just joking around. That's very cool of you to come back and clarify, though. But really, all is cool! Even the whole 1 star bandit/dickhead thing... good times! :D I don't get your grammar joke, though.

flapo1-Hey, how are ya? Thanks a lot. I sure appreciate the "Beatles, but fresh" comment. Very cool. I agree about the polish, for sure, which, really, is good news. Thanks for the special star! (Isn't it fun that us rock n rollin', drug takin', womanizin', gangbangin', hard livin', sumbitches, get to play with little gold stars and smiley faces, just like we was in kindygarten!! :p :D ) Thanks again, flapo!

mkg-Hey Mark, thank you. I like the lyric in the second one, too, cuz I don't really know what it's about. Thanks very much for checking them both out, I really appreciate it.

Wes-Drag about your drummer, but yeah, there should be a million of them in Athens, I would think. The trouble is finding one who doesn't play all fucking fancy, and isn't completely insane! On the NTK, you might want to try getting really close up on it. I read that it will actually overload/warm it up a bit, in a good way, and that might help with low end. I was thinking maybe trying Soundelux, but I've got no money for anything right now. I kinda just want to wait, and get the cream, or nothing! Hey, I've got a limo that looks like a 1980 Datsun! Probably worth less than an SM57...

JR#97-Sorry about that. Um, I think the traffic has died down, so you might want to check one last time. Thanks if you do. Again,
real sorry.

TripleM-I know what you mean about downloading. Takes me forever, too. I'll check out Nowhere! :)

Ya I've really gotta stop posting at 6 in the morning! What I was getting at is that the option is "Rate this thread" not "Rate this song." So if we're just rating songs here, what are we supposed to rate in the other forums?

I really wish they'd just boot the whole rating system anyway because it seems to upset some people needlessly.

My thinking is, if we're going to use the rating system, we should use it to indicate the quality of discussion surrounding the posters work. For example, is there a good discussion on how the song is recorded, how it was mixed, etc.

This isn't a contest here, it's a clinic.

So why are we rating songs??????

Anyway, enough from me. Keep up the great work man. Looking forward to hearing some new stuff from ya!

mac-daddy-acle... (that's "macle" in QQ-speak ;)) I'm such a cracker whitie :()

Gave 'em both a listen... then two... very good as always... it's hard to go at the end of a thread like this, cuz it sounds like you're just echoing other's comments... but what else can you say when the stuff was... good? ;)

The way the two vocals intertwined in "Beautiful Loser" was excellent... you sound quite a bit like Oasis; do you and your brother fight much? :D

B.L. sounded a bit darker mixwise, and Jacqueline was almost too bright... but these are early recordingz... my early stuff is worse that pootpie's stuff :o

You know... Chris Harris and you sound quite a bit alike, vocally.... interesting...

I'm not the type of person to get into this sound; but I know of several people (college types, mostly) who would eat this up with a biscuit, and their wallets... Hopefully your stuff will make it out to the world at large soon. Good luck.

So the person's head swells up and explodes, thus eliminating the competition ;)
