Hi guys

I want to buy a cheap bass for my recording (and for the fun of slapping those big string too) I don't want to put munch money so i'm planning to run me bass trough a guitar pod xt. Do you know if it will sound good? My pod will be hooked to some monitor, they sould do the job but i'm worring about the sound of the pod!

Any idea?

from user "Trevor Machine" in the fostex forum:

Although you didn't ask about bass guitar, it's probably worth mentioning that the POD is potentially extremely useful for bass. And yes - I mean the guitar POD (I or II), not the bass POD. Try the Tweed Blues setting with the compression effect (set on 9 or 10) with virtually any kind of Prec copy. Play the parts softly - very softly if using a plectrum. The sound you get will be extremely aggressive and very full. Consequently you may not need very much of it in the final mix. But, if the part is well-nailed, it will pump and power other parts of the beat along.

So yes- the regular guitar pod should be supa' cool!

I have a POD XT and I record EVERYTHING thru it. Axes, vocals bass...it works. I usually run the bass thru the Bassman setting or the Hiwatt and just tweak it till it sounds good. I run vocals thru the tube preamp setting. It is a horse of all trades.

I have used POD Pro fairly successfully as a DI box for bass, using several different models, especially tweed blues, which models a Fender Bassman. It's especially good if you want to use some distortion.-Richie

I also do it with the POD 2.0's Tube Preamp setting; works pretty well.

hummmm nice!

Seem's like i just need a cheap bass now! :)

SOmeone (a few days ago ) was saying how Peavy basses were approx $210 online everywhere - which is a pretty cheap price (for new). Also, I always loved Ibanez's low-end basses- at least 5-8 years ago you got a lot for your money.

Of course, there is always the used market...

The Pod probably won't sound any worse on bass than it does on guitar.

John Entwistle of The Who was using a red guitar POD Pro for part of his tri-amped bass set-up on their last tour. An Ashdown PM1000 and a Trace Elliot V-8 tube amp were the rest of the chain. Unfortunately, he died before any of us in America got to hear that sound. :(
