I want something to beef up my bass drum sound, give it a little extra punch with out adding too much top end to it, I'm not lookin' for a sub sound just something that's gonna cut thru real nice. I'm running through a Firepod if anyone's wondering. Any alternative suggestions are strongly encouraged as well.

Thanks,
Barrett

Try drumagog......Very nice......Or a sure beta 52.take off the front head and shove that mic 10" from the beater head off axis a little and throw a packing blanket over the kik drum. When you blend em, these two sound great!

You could do worse than the pres in a Mackie. I actually don't mind the Mackie for drums. If you're just stepping up to pres off your converter for drums - honestly check out a used 1604.

my personal fave is the Daking pre for drums. I find the API's too slappy and the Neves too thick the Hardy's too open...but you know...it's all good at that level...splitting hairs i don't have.

I will say i've used the Mackie pres on drums on larger sessions when i run out of "nice" pres and i don't mind em at all on drums...kick..snare...toms...on most everything else i find them to be a really big compromise next to the high buck stuff.

mic wise - check out an ATM 25.

laters.

Mike
