Just to double check before I solder some balanced cables together, is this the correct way

I'm connecting my Access Virus synth (Balanced i/p and o/p's) to my mackie big knob (Switchable i/p's +4db & -10db) switched to 4db

Tip = left channel/hot
Ring = right channel/cold
Sleeve = ground

I can't be 100% sure from your diagram but I think you have the right idea. Do you have a multimeter?

yes I do have a multimeter, thats not the problem I just want to check I'm doing this correctly so I make the most out of my system (+4db)

Using the multimeter, you should be able to check that you've done your wiring
correctly. If you've done it correctly, then that's all there is to it.

yes, that's right - of course, be sure to solder the shield braid to the ground, and not one of the two signal wires.
