Word is that Mars stores are going to be liquidating everything starting sat. Supossedly, the whole chain is folding, not just a few stores.

I think their online store is already folded up. Didn't work last night. Sorry if this is old news.

You know, I was in there today and they had taken down all those strat bodys they had hanging from the celing and had put $50.00 price tags on them.

I noticed that the rental PA gear had a sign that said "due to inventory, no new rentals)"

Firebird, me and Fingers(not that fingers, but our old rythem gtr player). are going down there sat 1st thing. ya wanna go? Oh, and Fingers had a tape of that poolside gig we did....the one where you spilled that Mr. Pibb down the back of your bassman. Ya wanna make a couple of copys?

OH GOD! We were really bad at that gig. You want me to make copies? I want to make sure that no one ever see that tape again!

Sure, I'll make copies.

Yes I want to go with you guys Sat. What time?

Yeah, we blew chunks. But we had our moments. We were on for Johnny B. Good, part of Stray Cat Strut, and we tore up Hey Bartender...

But Going down to Ely's was a clusterfuck, and the rest I dont even wanna think about.

It does have Huey getting thrown into the pool, and your famous Pibb spill.

Oh, and I'm not sure what time we are going..Will let you know tomorrow.

I stopped in at MARS tonight and got the scoop from the manager. He told me that tomorrow when they open (10-26-02) everything will be at 10% off the marked price. They will keep everything at that price until sales slow down and then they will cut the prices again. This will be going on until Dec. 20th when everything has to be gone. They will not be making any deals on anything. Priced as marked. If you don't like it, come back next week and it might be cheaper.

I did spot a USA made tele with a missing pickup that I'll be keeping an eye on.

I went to a local Mars store yesterday and offered them $800 for a pair of Mackie HR624 monitors incl tax.

No can do.

They did, however, offer me the pair for $800 plus tax.

So, I grabbed 'em.

Stopped at the local Mars last night and this morning to see the difference. 10% off as stated, however this store has to be out in 5 weeks so hopefully things will go down quicker!
A few keyboards and moniters were missing but they have a TON of guitars that I didn't see moving at all. In fact there really weren't many people in there which kinda suprised me.
There are a few Guitars I have my eyes on but not until they hit at least 30%.

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (September 27, 2002): MARS, Inc. and certain of its subsidiaries today announced that they filed a voluntary petition for protection under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the Southern District of Florida.

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE (September 30, 2002) -- Mars Music, one of the nation’s largest retailers of musical instruments, announced today that it is leaving the Memphis market effective immediately. The company had one store located at 888 South White Station Road in Memphis.

SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN (September 30, 2002) -- Mars Music, one of the nation’s largest retailers of musical instruments, announced today that it is leaving the Detroit market. The company had one store located at 28223 Telegraph Road in Southfield.

Doesn't appear to be all of them. I dont understand this anyway. When they opened one in Charlotte, they put Reliable music out of business which was the #1 store here for 20 yrs.
But there website no longer has all there products available.
I hope they dont close up !! But at least we have Guitar Center as a backup.

According to the manager of the local store, its the whole chain, not just the local store. This seams to be the case, because the local store is totally liquidating, rather than shipping to other stores.

Yup. They're all goin'. Both the Towson and Catonsville store in MD are pretty much empty. Infact, I'm headin' down there today to pick up some stuff. :D

I am really wanting some of their rental PA gear. They have some Eon Power 15's, but they cant sell that stuff till after inventory on tuesday.

I went by the St. Louis store yesterday (on St. Charles Rock Rd) and there was a sign on the door saying they were going to be closed for a few days for inventory. Nothing about going tits up but it's easy to see the writing on the wall.
