IMO/E? The Great River. No contest.
But the fact that it doesn't have tubes would put it over the rim if they were closer.
Keep in mind that it (the GR) is a fairly "thick" unit - It's a great sounding unit, of course - But not something you'd want to use on "everything" (nor would you want to with the Avalon for that matter). Assuming you have some nice, neutral preamps already (or you probably wouldn't be asking about these), the GR is a GReat unit to have around.
