i like my 3035 (haven't heard the B1 though) because it has bass cut and pad settings and is very solidly built as well as clear sounding on just about everything i record with it.

hhmmm...I wouldn't say C1 is less sibilant than 3035, quite the opposite really.

AT is a good company, and it like all other mikes will only work as well as the room you have it in. Every mic is different so when it comes to what works best is a matter of trial and error if you will. What in the end do you like? Any mic you buy no matter how expenisive or innexpensive simply does not matter. What matters is does the mic you buy do the job you wanted it to do?

Mic technique on the talent is a key issue, mic placement is a key issue, room conditions is a key issue. These are the factors that get the most out of a microphone, not what brand or model number it is.

I hope the mic you get does the job you need it to do.... :)
 
I own a B-1. I've used the 3035. I consider them both good mics in their price range. For the stated application, I prefer AKG C2000B to either of them. Both Rap and R&B can profit from a little color. Both B-1 and 3035 are mics I would be more likely to use for instruments than vocals. One thing you definitely get from this thread, though, is that there isn't a definitive better or worse for vocal mics. Vocal mics are like shoes. They either fit, or they don't. Yep, some shoes are better than others. It doesn't mean that they fit you.-Richie
 
The clear and obvious solution is the Studio Projects B-1.
 
Erm ... ok, on top of everything that goes without saying, why are you still calling it the B-1, when it's the B1? Just wondering, seeing as you seem to have the rest of the sales reel off pat ...
 
huh...seems clear and obvious to 50 % anyway... :D

I opted for the 3035 because I have one, have used it on vox, and acoustic guitars and it seemed to do a good job all the way around. But like the shoe analogy, they fit or they don't. For me and my styles, it fits.

I do plan on getting at least 1 SP B1 tho, mainly because its got good reviews and I'm adding to my locker...

Dogbreath - I think that's a good call. I haven't used the AT3035 but I think the B1 is a really decent mic and will always serve a purpose in just about any home user's mic collection. It just doesn't help when people reel off the sales pitch because it gives both the makers and the genuine fans of the thing look bad!!!

I'm a genuine fan of the product too. That's why I recommend it to anyone considering entering the field of recording, and it's not just for beginners. Professionals agree that the Studio Projects line is on par with some of the best (ahem.... *german) microphones on the market. The B-1 is certainly no exception. Test it out and decide for yourself. The Studio Projects line continues to impress.
