Hi
Do you maybe have any experiences with the Audigy 2 NX. I need an external soundcard for my laptop which is able to record digital signal (spdif optical or coax) in 24/96. Everything else is just a bonus. I`m a bit sceptical about the usb2 port and stability of this card, so I ask you for your opinion on this issue. Any other recommendations?

Thanx
Quarx

Not worth it. Bought one, played with it for 2 days trying to get it to work dropout free and promptly returned it for a full refund.

Skip USB and go for either Firewire or PC-Card.

the problem is my laptop doesn`t have a PCMCIA or FireWire ports. Only 5 USB2.0 ports... What shall I do.. hm..

Buy a better laptop? :D j/k.

Seriously, though... wait whaaaah!?!?! FIVE USB ports!?!?! You sure there's not a FireWire (a.k.a. iLink, a.k.a. IEEE 1394) port on there somewhere? That sure is a lot of USB ports. My DESKTOP machines don't have that many USB ports....

Anyway, best suggestion is probably something from Edirol. At least their hardware tends to be USB spec compliant, which, IMHO, is about the best you can hope for with USB. Not wonderful, but at least not thoroughly broken.

Creative Labs makes nothing but junk as far as pro audio goes. If it says 'Soundblaster' anywhere on it, it sucks. M-audio and Ederol make stuff that is better and not any more expensive. Why do people keep insisting on using this shit?

Every laptop has a PC-Card/PCMCIA slot. I find that hard to believe.

Repeat this mantra 10000 times and learn it by heart:

"Creative cards are gaming cards..."

Ok, i understand :)

and no, my laptop really doesn`t have a pcmcia slot... but has 5 usb ports! :) and no firewire... hm, now i really don´t know what to do. I just need a digital input (24/48 or 96) to record some sounds from my roland fantom workstation... The latency is not important, just that the signal and sound stay the same quality...

Tascam has one USB card, I forgot the model number but I think lotta folks use it with success.

What kind of laptop is it? Im sure it has a pcmcia slot in it... (list the band and model please)... Anyways, stay away from creative... The only decent thing they make are E-Mu products and those are way over priced for what you get.

Check out Ederol, they seem to have some nice stuff---

Like Anarchist said, tascam makes a nice usb model (TASCAM US-122 USB Audio/MIDI Interface)

Sorry about that, I just found it hard to believe... I have never seen a laptop without one...

Anyways you cant go wrong with M-Audio ... My buddy swares by them, and Ill admit his creations with the thing are pretty wild. As for the fast track pro though, (even being m-audio) I havnt heard to much about it but I asume its gatta be decent. Do your homework, Im sure you will find the right card :)

Take a look at the TASCAM US-122, I used to use it and I was very impressed by the results. I got rid of it however because I needed somthing PCI becuase of how many tracks I was doing.
