Just wanted to add a note that my problem I ultimately solved by simply uninstalling and reinstalling Cool Edit Pro. It took about 5 minutes.

..dont you love working with computers 
they make everything so simple and they always work and always react the same way even if you do it a hundred times. and should you dont get it to work they make a really neat nightstand by your bed.
