Athlon 64 vs. Pentium M for Recording Notebook

As the title suggests, do you believe a Pentium M or Athlon 64 would be "better" for recording?

Question #2. Most notebook computers, if they even have a Firewire jack, have the mini (4-pin) kind. Should I care, or do most Firewire audio interfaces have their own power supplies?

My vote is for the 64. From everything that i've heard so far is that it's much more stable than Pentium...but I'm going on word of mouth and not actual experience.

As far as your second question, I'm not sure what you mean by the 4 pin mini. But most audio interfaces plug into the wall for power.

I think the 4-pin is more for camcorders and cameras. most of the gear I've looked at needed the 6pin, It's a cheap enough to get a 1394 PCMCIA card with the proper connection.

I've been reading such things about the 64 versus the Pentium 4, but the Pentium-M is a completely restructured processor, designed to get more done at lower clock speeds. I haven't seen any in-depth comparison between the 64 and the M.

It's even cheaper to get a 4-pin to 6-pin cable. A PCMCIA firewire 6 pins interface won't supply any power anyway. PCMCIA is not suitable for buspowering.

From what I know, firewire interfaces always come with an additional power supply for cases like these. And if one don't, steer away from it. A manufacturer that doesn't put a power supply in the box doesn't deserve your money.
