ASIO: what and how?

What is it, how do I install it? Do I really need it if I don't record to my pc/laptop?

ASIO stands for Audio Stream Input Output.
It is basically a driver protocol developed by Steinberg.
Your soundcard may use this or WDM Kernel streaming.Some cards/interfaces can use either protocol.
No, you do not need to get ASIO if your soundcard manufacturer doesn't offer them.You may already have WDM drivers on your system instead.
