so. i have about 200 dollars and i need a vocal mic.

reading through all the threads there are so many different varying opinions on starter mics that my head hurts. yes, my head hurts.

some people recommend the studio projects b1, others the mxl v67, along with an assortment of others, yet i've read so many threads where they say that they wouldn't recommend this mic or that mic for different reasons. so, once and for all, what would you recommend?

i'm considering an ecm 8000 for acoustic guitar recording besides the vocal mic.

last, but not least, i've read that the choice of mics vary on the voice but i don't have a convenient way to test out the mics as there is no major store where they carry microphones. my voice is breathy/whispery/raspy, if that helps out any.

all right. thanks a lot. sorry for making an annoying first thread, but, that's okay. ;)

thanks in advance for the help!

i can't offer you a comparison of those mics but i would suggest that you could get two or three mics for $200 of the prices you're considering. the debate is whether it's worth spending $200 on ONE mic or getting a selection for the same money. that depends on your uses. you could look at a pair of oktava mk012s and either a B1 or a v67?

SPB1 and MK319 and ECM8000. That's under $200.
Use these, listen and learn, save some more money. Then buy another mic. Ad infinitum...

forget the ecm8000 for $39....its a very decent mic to have around but with a limited budget you can put your money in better places.......

Studio Projects B1 - $80
Oktava MK319 - $50
Marshall MXLv93M - $80

between these you should easily pull off vocals and acoustic guitar.....when you find the one or two that work best, sell the other(s) on ebay for more than you paid for it:D and try another or look into preamps....btw, what preamp are you gonna use?

thanks so much for the responses. i'm pretty much finalized on the studio projects b1.

gidge, could you specify what the MK319 and the MXLv93M would be used for?

and the only pre i have is just a mixer...ub802. fairly all right for what i paid for it. :) would you recommend getting something else?

depends on your money. for real cheap get an audio buddy. for more look at the m-audio dmp3 (2 channels), the focusrite trakmaster, the SP VTB1 or if you need loads of channels a mackie mixer.
