anyone else have trouble with the art tube amp falling out 20db or so infrequently?

Sounds like a dodgy valve... [or in Amerikkka... "bad tube"]

i have two of them and they both do it? they're 100 each, worth replacing the tube?

Oh Yeah, definitely worth replacing the tube...

I just have on quick question: Are they actual ART tube amps, or are they the tube "MP" modules? At $100 a pop, I'd definitely replace the tubes, & if that didn't do it, then try a competent repair person. If you can't afford to replace the tubes, let me know, I've got literally hundreds of the 12AX7's, -AT's, etc., on hand, I'll send ya a couple for the cost of shipping... Let me know something, thanks,
Groove.

I've got the MP. If your replacing the tubes, try the Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH. I'm running them, and they're beautiful.

Would these most likely be the same type of replacement tube for the ART TPS? What vendor/distributer do you suggest to purchase the Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH tubes from?

TIA!

P.S. - R U the same "BlindCowboy" from the RW message boards?

yeah, they are the tube mp modules. slick little units other than this problem i question whether it is the tubes (considering that both of them are doing it). maybe there is some kind of controlled experiment i can run. otherwise thank you for all the tube suggestions!

1st,

Yea, i'm the BC from the Recording Website. Can't stand that place anymore. Sad to watch a good thing take a bad dive...

As for the EH tubes, you can check www.8thstreet.com or www.interstatemusic.com I think. I got mine through a local supplier. Going to the EH tubes in the Art units is a must do. They're like, $10 bucks a piece. Cheap and nice upgrade. And, it applies to any of the Art 12AX7 tubed systems.

As for the 2 units the poster has, what exactly is happening? It's cracking up, or dropping completely, or just a limiting type signal loss? Are you using the factory power supply on both?

Oh wait! I think I had this same problem once. I had a ground loop problem in my rack. Board was shocking me, etc... I would use the Art and everything would be fine, then signal drop, then screaming, etc...

I took it apart, removed the tube, cleaned the board and connections, replaced the tube, and re-assembled it. I then found my grounding issue, so I don't know if it was the cleaning or the ground problem.

If this is a possibility, Take the Art to another wall plug in your house. Check it there. (Extension cord optional.) See if your still getting the problem.

I've got three Tube MPs, two Tube MP Studio's, and a Dual MP, and I've never had a problem with them... very consistent, no dropouts, no unusual noises or odd behaviour. The tip about upgrading the tubes might help, but I'd try the tip about trying them in a different outlet first... mighty weird that they both drop by 20db, especially if they do it at the same time.
