I have one that I've used for years in a small mobile rack along with a Behri ADA8000 or FocusRite OctoPre. I never had a problem with it but, based on reviews I've read, others have. My experience with ART is that anything sent back for a repair gets repaired/replaced well.
My thoughts:
---The AD features and quality are under-rated (24-bit level, sample rate options, ADAT or SPDIF, ADAT channel patching, digital clip indicator), especially at this price level
---The variable input impedence is especially nice for ribbon mics but also adds tonal flexibility for the presets with dynamics and condensers
---More than enough clean gain, especially for live recording
---Has all the usual features of preamps in this price range
---Has more I/O options (front/rear inputs, inserts) than other preamps in this price range
---Not the easiest preamp to use because of the presets feature
---The stock tube is usable but not the best possible choice
---Read the following article about a phantom power issue with the rear 1/4-inch inputs:
ART DPS II
---Also works well with line-level signals
---If you don't need the digital I/O, choosing the TPS-II will save you $90
I hope this helps,
