ART DPS-II preamp

Yeah. I personally would go for the DPSII though, because of the digital outs that will be useful later. Adds two channels to an interface with s/pdif in. Plus the adjustable impedance control really allows more flexibilities. ADAT (optical) in/out too. Sweetwater has for $204 and it comes with Tootsie Roll's and Smarties! :D

The TPS has adjustable impedance and its only $139 shipped. - My interface doesn't have any spidf or ADAT :(

I would make sure that isn't a completely backwards description. My TPSII does not have impedance adjustment. Unless they have completely changed the design within the year, that looks like a bait and switch to me. :/

I've had one for about 4 years and it has a impedance adjustment control.

Then what the hell crap was I sold? A cheap china copy of a china preamp? WTF?

lol @ jimmy!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to jimmys69 again.

Well, it looks like a get the Darwin award today. I have an ART TPS. LOL! Sorry.

:o:(:o

LMAO! Sweet - well if it's good enough for you...

Man I keep getting outbid in the last 10 seconds on Lepreseabay for a sm7b

I just ordered one so I can utilize the s/pdif input on my interface. I did have a great experience with the DPSII at another studio, with a SM58 recording a demo for the vocalist of FFDP, Ivan. One of the best vocal tones I had heard for of singer of his type.

I already use a TPSII for scratch tracks. Just throwing another usable pre in the rack. Big money will be spent next week on my X73! :)

So what type of singer was he? Maybe I can just use a sm57 and this TPSII

What was your last bid? And what where you hoping to pay for one Wes?

Well I bid $266 on the last used one (sold for 265 and at the last minute it wouldn't take my 266 bid - wanted me to do $270 and it closed seconds before I could bid )and the day before I did $250 or something on one that went for $255.

There are a couple around $300 used I'm just gonna get one

Well I just bought the TPSII for $139 shipped. I will try bidding on a couple more sm7b's before I just spend the $300

I want to see how my current mics sound through the new pre :)

Finally won a damn auction!

sm7b should arrive next week :D

I have one that I've used for years in a small mobile rack along with a Behri ADA8000 or FocusRite OctoPre. I never had a problem with it but, based on reviews I've read, others have. My experience with ART is that anything sent back for a repair gets repaired/replaced well.
My thoughts:
---The AD features and quality are under-rated (24-bit level, sample rate options, ADAT or SPDIF, ADAT channel patching, digital clip indicator), especially at this price level
---The variable input impedence is especially nice for ribbon mics but also adds tonal flexibility for the presets with dynamics and condensers
---More than enough clean gain, especially for live recording
---Has all the usual features of preamps in this price range
---Has more I/O options (front/rear inputs, inserts) than other preamps in this price range
---Not the easiest preamp to use because of the presets feature
---The stock tube is usable but not the best possible choice
---Read the following article about a phantom power issue with the rear 1/4-inch inputs: ART DPS II
---Also works well with line-level signals
---If you don't need the digital I/O, choosing the TPS-II will save you $90

I hope this helps,
Paj
