Are Shure SM96 microphones battery powered and if so how do you change the batteries/battery. I just got one and it appears to be dead. If anyone has a Shure SM96 and knows how to change its batteries or if it even has batteries, I'd deeply appreciate any advice. I tried unscrewing the top to change it, but it did not appear to be the proper way to change the batteries, since the wiring and condensor seemed very delicate and did not aoppear to slide out easily. Am I missing something? Please advise.

Very Best Regards,

Says it takes a single AA or uses phantom power. Sounds like it the body unscrews apart in two pieces, which might be a separate thread from the windscreen. The SM94 is similar, except it has a screw to connect to two body pieces that must be removed first. Actually the manual photo of the SM96 looks like there is a similar screw, but the instructions don't mention it. Try removing it if all else fails.
