Aphex Compellor?

I own two Aphex compellors. They are a little different than the ones that Aphex is making right now. I heard compellors are really great compressors...as they tend to compress but not deteriorate the sound.

The problem I have is, the two aphex compellors I have right now don't seem to do anything! What's going on? I bought this dude's rack and the compellors were on it. Apparently they Aphex compellors run about $1500 or so for the 2-channel model. The compellors I have contain conrols for input, output, compress (not a ratio knob) and silence gate (which doesn't seem to do squat either), in/out, gain reduction/program. I have tried everything with both units and they do not seem to change the sound or the dynamics. Is it possible that whatever part does the compression can wear out over time? Does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone else even heard of a compellor?

LOL...this is a common problem believe it or not. ;)

People get a Compellor and insist its not working. It is. Its just very transparent.

extreme as it gets.

by the way...if indeed it is very transparent...what's the point of having a compellor...i'm not noticing a diffence on the meter on the cd burner when i mixdown through a compellor.
