for the "opposite of the 990" and for "decent sounding vocals on a budget, the V67 is hard to beat.

How would you characterize the sound of the V67?

"not suffering from the artificial high end hype that most modern cheap chinese mics suffer from."

this leads people to call it "dark". it's not really dark.....it's just darker in comparison to things like the Rode NT1A and the SP C1, which are *bright* mics. it's also got this weird midrange hashiness going on that some folks just plain don't like....but i think it's certainly a decent (better than average) $100 mic.

it does really well for a couple vocalists that i regularly record--in fact, it's *the* mic for one guy, which made it worth the purchase in itself. it just works in perfect concert with the sound of his voice, and when he comes in to record, i hang the V67 and don't typically worry about trying out other mics on him. on some folks it's just too cloudy/grainy.

i've never been able to get it to give me a usable acoustic guitar tone (some folks have), but i've already got other mics for that task.

do a search for "V67". there are a LOT (thousands, probably) of posts about it here.

cheers,
wade

just an update, i got a SM 58 and it's actually quite ok... much cleaner than the PG 58.... i might just pick up the MXL V67 though, just in case.
